You'll have to re-tap the threads either way. Might as well use a Heli-coil threaded insert. Very easy into aluminum and the Heli-coil will be much stronger than aluminum threads.

Great post! I spent some time up there on Whidbey Island in the Navy. 30-some years ago. Worked on that very same A-6 that's on the pole in your photo. Used to live at Deception Pass, Rosario Beach. A great place for bicycling. Hopefully someday I'll return with my FJR. Thanks for sharing.
