It has a sophisticated stability control system with built in ABS, not true active suspension. My Step Dad bought a new RS-S a year ago this month and has ridden the tar out of it, no Problems.

Sounds like you may still have a pilot circuit issue with the backfiring. Pilot jets are about the smallest orfice in the carb, so they tend to plug first, either fully or partially.

The foam is in place on both sides on mine. I actually started wrapping my shins in foil faced insulation (foil on outside) with velcro, looks kinda goofy but works great! Just kidding, it ain't that bad.
