    Relay arm bearing time.

In my opinion, since the C/S rotates constantly every time it is engaged/disengaged, I think a shoulder at that pivot point would be a better choice.  I replaced mine with OEM (I was ordering Yamaha parts anyway), but since then I have confirmed that our local hardware store had exact...

    Relay arm bearing time.

Agree - cutting the c/s bolts is the hardest part of the job.  I was fortunate enough to have a m/c lift to work from, and not the ground.  Still, that part was a PITA.

    2020 FJR1300

In Europe, the Niken is a HUGE success.  Seen them all over France earlier this year. Anybody know if the current Connie is Euro 5 compliant? I emailed (and subsequently re-emailed) Yamaha regarding Euro 5 compliance with the 2020 FJR.  Crickets.  Absolute crickets.

    Relay arm bearing time.

I fear you are in a nine-line bind.  I do not think that metal can be easily welded.  TIG welded, maybe.  Otherwise, you have to replace the entire subframe. IIRC, the 2-wheel obsession video doesn't depict hanging the bike from that part of the subframe.  I think it hangs it from the Givi...

Gen III Valve Check - Anything Different?

I unhooked the cables at the throttle (handlebar) to generate slack, then remove the screw that holds the bracket on the bottom and slide the cables to the right out of the way.  Didn't have to do that on the Gen 1 (enough slack built into the cable to wiggle the cam cover around it).

Gen III Valve Check - Anything Different?

^^^ these are the only two differences that I know of between Gen 1 and Gen III.  Timing cover has to be removed (or turn the rear wheel), and you have to unhook the throttle cables from the bottom as they do not provide enough clearance to remove the cover.

Weird symptoms. Need your expertise please...

Again, I can't see where you have tried to eliminate the cause of the problem being a fuel venting issue from fuel at the top of the fuel tank after fill up? Things could be normal now just recently because you have 50 miles of fuel burned off and the venting issue is no longer there until you...

    Relay arm bearing time.

Agree with the above.  Quite frankly, the hardest part of this job is to decide how you want to hang the bike.  This is how I did mine: Cutting the C/S bolts is no big deal, but you do need a sharp blade.  Use some oil on the blade teeth and they will but like butter.  I bought some OEM bolts...

Weird symptoms. Need your expertise please...

I wish you would have tried the "fill it only 1/2 way and see if the symptoms repeats itself" test before cutting anything.  If you don't try just one thing at a time, you may not (likely won't) know what ultimately fixes it.  The 1/2 fill test will help much more definitively identify the...

    whining about valve adj.

My 1984 Honda CB700s had hydraulic lifters and a redline of 10,750 IIRC (over 10K for sure).  The cams were ground such that you got the "hit" at about 8K, so I can assure you, I've tested that redline more than 100 times. I'm from the "its a way to make service money for the dealers" camp.  I...

Weird symptoms. Need your expertise please...

If he tries to start it with the fuel filler open, wouldn't that throw a Check Engine light because the fuel system can't pressurize properly? I'm interpreting your description literally - this ONLY happens after you stop at the gas station and fill the tank up - correct?  If you stop at your...

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

The Bridges to Everywhere   I’ve always had a thing for bridges.  I especially enjoy highway bridges of all kinds.  It’s funny how something so benign to some people can fascinate others.  I’d imagine that most people don’t give bridges a second thought.  They see them as utilitarian pieces of...

Oil coming out of valve cover

I highly doubt the bike would start with 60 psi or less. The mechanic is dishonest.  Seek help elsewhere.

    The Special Ingredient

The Special Ingredient   I recently rode my motorcycle to attend the annual Southern FJR Owner’s gathering (SFO 2019).  The weather this year was challenging.  On Thursday, I rode 500 easy miles to the event under beautiful skies.  Friday and Saturday were rainy, so I parked the bike and...

    Minor cold start issue... Common?

Yes - the T/Bs can be sync'd, but I highly doubt that is your problem.  If the sync was so far off as to cause engine running problems, it wouldn't mysteriously correct itself after a cold start and die.

    Changing Times

Thank you for reading my ride report. Phil - I've been riding that region for 12 years.  I know my way around there as much as the next guy.  So if we decide "let's go _______", in general, I know the better way to get there.  Also, believe it or not, the State highway maps do a great job of...

    Changing Times

Changing Times I recently had 11 days and 2900 miles of great fun riding my motorcycle throughout the Appalachian range.  Taking an autumn bike trip has become quite a tradition for me over the years.  The summers in south Louisiana are so long and brutal.  We sweat and we wait for the north...

    Hurricane Michael, a personal view...

Your insurance company must provide you (in writing) a line by line explanation of the rebuild cost.  Anything that is excluded or not covered, they must explain using the terms of the policy. Your policy may not have a "code clause", whereby if you have an insurable loss, your policy won't pay...

    Aftermarket Rear Shock

Just as an update to my previous post, whereby I was concerned about movement in my rear suspension, recently I bought a used Relay Arm off Flea-bay and I bought all new bearings, seals, collars, bolts, etc. for it.  I also bought new bearings and seals for the swing arm end of the dog bones...
