Gents: Yes, thanks for the continuing "thoughts" . . . usually the "tipover" phenom is one of those "hindsight is 110%" . . . and could have been avoided, but, that isn't really the nature of motorcycling is it, which is about moving in one direction, quickly . . . w/o letting "thoughts" get in...

MuHAHaaaaa . . . finally something that the Gen2 is "better at" than the Gen3 !!!! Worth it to me, I'm "OK" with a slower bike, but it has to do tip overs gracefully and for cheap. The FJR seems to be better than my old Konk, tip over cracked the fairing in a place very hard to get to to fix...

Latest update: Stumbling around in the dark of my backyard trying to get a view of the "harvest moon" I forgot that I had moved the FJR, covered with a black cover, and boom--walked right into it . . . . I have the side-stand shimmed so that the bike is more upright rather than compressing one...

@rd: So, I did take a look at the fork tubes and I didn't see any hash marks, lines, or dots that would indicate "default" or recommended settings . . . as far as I could determine. I thought I would turn the "pre-load" knob, little black knob on top in "one click" each toward the "H"...

@RD: Thanks for the instructions, I'll have to look to see where the items are set, the PO said he had the mechanic set it for "firm" and he is ballpark a tad heavier than I am . . . I haven't felt the need previously to "fix what didn't seem to be broke" . . . but, um, my lever is always set...

LOL, right, always important to be thankful for what we've got, as, it could always be, get, or have been worse. But, thanks for the tech details . . . got a few thousand to go before cracking the fork tubes, next stop is the pricey valve check operation. Haven't messed with the preload...

@SLK50: So I checked my rear tire and it looks like it's 180/55 . . . haven't checked the OEM recommends to see what that is, I went through a lot of tires on my Konk, using the GW tire which was wider because nobody was stocking the OEM size, when I finally got there, it was a tad, like 5mm...

@Uncle H: Tire pressure, previous owner suggested 40/42 . . . which I am pretty rigorous about maintaining adequate tire pressure, generally "max cold" recommended on the tire. I'll have to check into 42/44 as an option for two-up riding, these days it's more solo, but pressure in tires...

For what might be the second time in the roughly three years of ownership I had a significant occurrence of what I call the "two-up flop" on the FJR, referring to low speed handling while trying to make turns or u-turns with a passenger, the FJR seems to want to over-flop rather quickly in...

I'm with on the "washing the bike every 4K or so . . ." concept . . . other things to do, etc. I think the fork rebuild is somewhat "technical" and does require **knowledge** and correct tools . . . plus, I think it's kind of a PITA job . . . perhaps best left to the pros for the peace of mind...

@fjrmark: Thanks for the comments . . . that's pretty impressive to still have the original battery . . . I think I got 8 years out of a battery on my other bike . . . then I got bored with it. Didn't need the battery tender to get that . . . I think this present battery is four or five years...
