    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

Yep. forum posts range from high quality data to low comedy . . . precerate it.

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@Fontanaman: Thanks for the details on the suspension upgrades, got roughly 10K before that would be scheduled . . . I've used Works Performance in the past to upgrade Kawi springs and shock--they are also in LA, but doesn't seem to be making the "short list" for the FJR upgrades on the forum...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

Gents: Yes, thanks for the continuing "thoughts" . . . usually the "tipover" phenom is one of those "hindsight is 110%" . . . and could have been avoided, but, that isn't really the nature of motorcycling is it, which is about moving in one direction, quickly . . . w/o letting "thoughts" get in...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

MuHAHaaaaa . . . finally something that the Gen2 is "better at" than the Gen3 !!!! Worth it to me, I'm "OK" with a slower bike, but it has to do tip overs gracefully and for cheap. The FJR seems to be better than my old Konk, tip over cracked the fairing in a place very hard to get to to fix...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

Latest update: Stumbling around in the dark of my backyard trying to get a view of the "harvest moon" I forgot that I had moved the FJR, covered with a black cover, and boom--walked right into it . . . . I have the side-stand shimmed so that the bike is more upright rather than compressing one...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@rd: So, I did take a look at the fork tubes and I didn't see any hash marks, lines, or dots that would indicate "default" or recommended settings . . . as far as I could determine. I thought I would turn the "pre-load" knob, little black knob on top in "one click" each toward the "H"...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@RD: Thanks for the instructions, I'll have to look to see where the items are set, the PO said he had the mechanic set it for "firm" and he is ballpark a tad heavier than I am . . . I haven't felt the need previously to "fix what didn't seem to be broke" . . . but, um, my lever is always set...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

LOL, right, always important to be thankful for what we've got, as, it could always be, get, or have been worse. But, thanks for the tech details . . . got a few thousand to go before cracking the fork tubes, next stop is the pricey valve check operation. Haven't messed with the preload...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@Eagle6: Agreed that generally they are better than we are at the pillion and the power of "faith." If you don't mind the comment, what you are describing is "our" point of view of what the pillion is experiencing, rather than the pillion describing "their ride." But, it does sound like a...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@jtdunc: Thanks for the comments, I see you kept your Ninja stored at the Rock Store way back when, I used to be a regular there on Sat mornings, but these days no time for standing around next to my bike, now I'm an "intermittent." Well, sure, I've never suggested that my pillion do anything...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

Looks like I have still "exceeded my likes quota" . . . @C-Steve: Thanks for the thoughts, yeah, the Pirelli is still "new" and so I can't exactly tell if that made a change to behaviors or not. But, indeed on the "Fjr is a walk in the park compared to C-10" . . . yes, today was "C-10 day" . ...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@Bill L: Anything requiring "skill" is one of my problem areas, but, good insight on the "use the rear brake, Luke . . ." that is something that I am aware of and practice at stop signs to try to avoid putting a foot down, etc. This recent instance was much more complicated by the multitude of...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@SLK50: So I checked my rear tire and it looks like it's 180/55 . . . haven't checked the OEM recommends to see what that is, I went through a lot of tires on my Konk, using the GW tire which was wider because nobody was stocking the OEM size, when I finally got there, it was a tad, like 5mm...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

et al: Looks like I've used up my "likes" for the day, so "thanks" to the additional comments . . . . @Eagle6: Agreed . . . higher speed thrashing from pillion is easier to flex around given enough room on the highway, than low speed thrashing . . . .

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@Uncle H: Tire pressure, previous owner suggested 40/42 . . . which I am pretty rigorous about maintaining adequate tire pressure, generally "max cold" recommended on the tire. I'll have to check into 42/44 as an option for two-up riding, these days it's more solo, but pressure in tires...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

@SLK50: Thanks for the reply, yep, running the stock springs/shock--I have 21K on the bike, so I'm anticipating a fork "rebuild" around 30K, at which point I might think of upgrading the components a bit. I've used Works Performance springs and shock on my older bike, it does have to be...

    09 FJR--two-up floppiness?

For what might be the second time in the roughly three years of ownership I had a significant occurrence of what I call the "two-up flop" on the FJR, referring to low speed handling while trying to make turns or u-turns with a passenger, the FJR seems to want to over-flop rather quickly in...

Fork oil/fork R&R scheduled mileage? && need min. Volts to run bike?

I'm with on the "washing the bike every 4K or so . . ." concept . . . other things to do, etc. I think the fork rebuild is somewhat "technical" and does require **knowledge** and correct tools . . . plus, I think it's kind of a PITA job . . . perhaps best left to the pros for the peace of mind...

Fork oil/fork R&R scheduled mileage? && need min. Volts to run bike?

@fjrmark: Thanks for the comments . . . that's pretty impressive to still have the original battery . . . I think I got 8 years out of a battery on my other bike . . . then I got bored with it. Didn't need the battery tender to get that . . . I think this present battery is four or five years...

Fork oil/fork R&R scheduled mileage? && need min. Volts to run bike?

@recent posters: Thanks for the added comments on the battery. @mcatrophy: Thanks for the videos . . . I tend to be a "visual" learner . . . personally I think the first bike sounded better . . . . That sound is always fun to hear, much more fun than the sound of a car . . . or any car that...
