That is a very old story, but the cell phone part is new. According to the original, it was pretty much the bike pilot's fault, as it was estimated he was in excess of 150mph at time of impact. Here's a link with what is reported to be a photo of the actual crash scene.

I always wipe off the filter sealing surface and wipe on a thin film of high-quality grease to it and the sealing face of the new filter. Cleaning stuff is a good way to check for issues....
