Bike won't crank with sidestand down

I've owned three FJR's, two 2007's and the current 2014. Never have I had an oil sensor light come on except when first starting up the bike after an oil change. As a side note, I never start off until the engine temp shows a numeric reading. Likewise I have never had an FJR that used oil in a...

    North Cascades snow clearing described

Great write up on the efforts required to open this highway. I have taken the highway in both directions in late summer. It is one of my favorite rides..

Steering Head Roller Bearing - Upgrade or Boondoogle?

Interesting to read the different opinions. I have owned three FJR's and ridden about 200,000 miles combined. None of the bikes ever had a steering head bearing issue. I had the head nut retorqued on the break-in service and once again at about 8000 miles. Never did another torque check after that.

WCG - Routes and Things to See/Do

I've done those as well. Another good one is Mines Road from Pleasanton to Junction and then from there to Mt. Hamilton and down to San Jose. You will not fall asleep on that route.

    Painting the tank trim

Tank trim looks good. Now get busy and clean up that rash on the bag(s) and faring. For what it is worth, I covered my tank trim with 3M carbon fibre tape. Did same on the cowling behind the front wheel.

    Headlight Modulator suggestions

Good choice! With aux. lights you will be just as conspicuous and not hated by other motorists.

    Headlight Modulator suggestions

Some good suggestions here. Just as info there are some states that consider modulating headlights illegal. If you do not plan to ride at night consider Denali DM lights. They have have very low current drawl and are not that expensive. I mounted them on the location where the side...

    ABS and Check engine lights

Did you use any magnetic tools around the ABS sensor when disassembling the rear wheel? Likewise, the cable being frayed is a possible problem. I’ve had three FJR’s with ABS and had many rear tires replaced. Never have I seen any wear or damage to that cable. It is well fastened to the...

    Update/resolved & thx. —> Tire mount / balance weight(s) question

Interesting chain of comments here. I know this will drawl negative comments but here it is. I have been running Michelin PR tires starting with PR 2 and currently Road 5. Of all the series I have never used wheel weights. I started back in 1999 on a Virago 1100 using ceramic beads in the front...

    FJR1300 To Be Retired

Fred, We share the same status on our 2014’s. I too just turned 60k on my bike and it is just as good as the day I took it home from the dealer. At 80 years old I do not foresee a need to worry about wearing the bike out before I hang up my jacket. 🤠

    Loaner rear drive repair tools

I had the Venture gears put in my 2014 final drive. It was done by a shop in, as I recall, Mannheim, PA. Cost was $300. It works great… adds about 4 mph to the 5th gear.

Tis the Season for Battery Failures

I am by no means an authority on batteries of any type but I can report I had a 2007 with original battery and sold the bike in January 2014. The original battery was still going strong. My current 2014 battery was replaced in May because the dealer said it was weak and since I was about to...

FJR citing in Spain & Portugal

I have been traveling in Spain and Portugal for the past 7 days and have not seen one FJ R so far. Other than scooters, the most common motorcycles seem to be BMW. There are some riders from Spain on this Forum so perhaps they can advise how getting service in their area works?

    Bike Cover Specifics

Ror dust cover in the garage I use a retired king size fitted bottom sheet for the front section of eh bike and a king size top sheet for the windscreen t the back. That gives complete coverage of he bike. On road trips I bought one of he cheap water resistant coves that was shipped from Hong...
