Anyone else in Canada get a call re: Ign Switch

I just went to closest dealer, (Hamilton Ontario) gave him bike serial number and he said " yep its eligible". He ordered a kit and replacement completed. I did not expect a recall since I'm not an original owner.

Cheap, easy helmet lock (theft deterent)

I use a reasonably heavy bike lock cable with integrated lock. Goes through chin bar of 1 or 2 helmets and armpit vent of my 'stitch and wifes jacket and grap handles. Often just cary it through grab hands and coiled on seat. An OEM helmet lock would be nice though!

A Few Questions on GPS Units

I use a Garmin GPS 60cx on the feej. Waterproof, very versitile, small screen works for me, doesn't talk so you're forced to be aware when you are getting near a turn. I use a Garmin Nuvi 260W in the car and frankly the voice can make you crazy esp. if you decide to go off route. BTW the...

    Ignition switch in Canada

I am not the original owner of an '06. I understand that in the USA the switch replacement is a mandated recall. Some say Yamaha in Canada will do it. Is it a mandatory recall up here? Will Yamaha do it for not original owners? Do I just ask any dealer to do it? Kudos to this list for all the...

    Garmin 550 Route download trouble...

[There are some issues with the most recent version of MapSucks and GPS firmware. I would start by making 100% certain you have the latest of both MapSource and Firmware on your GPS. Use the Garmin Web Update utility. There were some very recent fixes posted by Garmin to correct exactly the...

    Battery tender

I live in South Ontario - Winter temps ave probably -5 deg C, with some "plus" temps and a few days/nights as low as -20 deg. C. I plan to leave battery in the bike hooked up to a tender in unheated garage. Will the battery or the tender be adversely affected? Its a 2006 with, presumably...

    Books on riding and/or motorcycles

The Perfect Vehicle, what it is......by Melissa Holbrok Peterson - one of the best general reads, really nailed for me 'What it is about motocycling." Loved it!

    Splines and lubrication

Just changed both tires (to Avons) with a lot of help from a friend. :) Pulled the pumpkin and drive shaft. The rear wheel drive splines were well lubed. :) The universal end of the drive shaft had no lube and was rusty yet. No damage that I could see. So lathered her up with...

What to do - scratched sidebag

At the Watkins Glen Beemer rally last weekend, got up Sat. AM and found a beemer on its side with its windshield (broken) under my left sadle bag. A deep scratch and some abrasion that looks like it will polish out on my bag. Lucky the beemer wasn't closer or my FJR would have gone over and then...

    Finger Lakes

There is a BMW rally in Watkins Glen this weekend Fri - Mon. I plan to arrive there Fri afternoon and leave late Sunday or real early Monday - border crossing at Buffalo on long weekend is not fun  Dave

    Tie down points

I have a bud who camps with his sleep apnea thingy with Concours (C10 not C14) and claims he runs off the battery and there is power enough left to start in AM. Don't know how wiring is rigged, he prolly uses a transformer when he plugs into his house.

    Throttle cable lubrication

Book says to lube the cable with cable luber or engine oil. How do you guys do it? My cable luber will not seal tight on the handle bar cable ends. Do I have to go under the tank and use the pressure to lube up?

    Extremely Tight Oil Drain Plug

I just changed my oil & filter. The plug was tight but came loose without too much force. Just tightened it till it felt not too tight with 1/2 drive and not max force. There was a crushed washer which was so squished I couldn't pry it off so left it - no leaks 24hrs one short ride.

    exhaust pipes under bike?

Wait till you see the new speed bumps that are the same height but 4 feet wide! It's like riding over 6" high cross walk. I guarantee it will slow everyone down. AND IT WILL NOT BEND ANY PIPES BECAUSE THE SPEED BUMP IS LONGER THAN ANY BIKE! I was in Portugal last fall. These seem to describe...

    FJR extremely unstable !!!

Thanks for the post. As a newbie I had it fall already when the F'N side stand was not fully down. Almost always use the side stand, I've never considered a flat tire will straighten up the bike. Will keeping something heavy in the left bag prevent it?

    Garmin Mapsource 6.14

If you use Garmin Mapsource with MS xp and have version 6.13.7 don't update to 6.14 6.14 sucks, missing features, colors make roads hard to see at normal state map scales, cartoon looking graphics :angry2: and it runs slower. This after it took Garmin support 4 hours to get map software...

    What is it?

Found when I bought a 2006 AV. Two washers which look to me like spark plug compressionable seal washers. Each is in a sealed baggie with "Yamaha Genuine" on it with this number 214-11198-01. What are they for? I have tried reverse look up at two OEM suppliers from the list and each time there...

    Warning Side Stand

I was about to leave on a weekend road trip, it was pissing rain, bike was in the driveway, I was in the garage putting on my helmet and the bike fell over. Apparent cause: the stand looked like it was down, but was not fully down. You have to make sure you kick it fully forward or it will make...
