    Which Mityvac

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Mityvac for clutch and brake fluid changes. There's this one: https://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp#06820 for about $42 and there's this one: https://www.solomotoparts.com/product.php?p...=482&page=1 for about $67. The more expensive model is made...

    New Bike Owner's:

I'd probably be saving a whole bunch of money by doing my own wrenching except I went out and bought a lift to make the jobs easier. There goes the profits!

    Just Got A Kendon Lift

Due to a promotion running right now, Mark was able to offer me my choice of a free 18" tool tray or the oil change attachment. Each regularly costs $60. I took the tool tray since I probably won't be using the lift just to do an oil change. The only other accessory I ordered were 2 pair of...

    Just Got A Kendon Lift

I just took delivery of a Kendon Harley/Cruiser lift. This is the correct size for the FJR. They also make a "Sportbike" model which is shorter and only has a 600 pound capacity and a longer "Chopper" model. I haven't used it yet so I'll update this thread after this weekend when I plan on...

    TBS synch tools

I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these Syncpro tools. Did you have to buy the 6mm adapters they sell for Yamahas or did the tool work on the FJR without them?

    Manual cost

I just ordered one from Ron Ayers for $57.

    Oil pan replacement?

Wait! Can I impose one more time? What is the length of the correct helicoil insert for this application?

    Oil pan replacement?

Ray, Please point me to the correct heli-coil kit for an '06. I don't want to go through the exercise of removing the pan.

    Self-tapping Drain Plug

Ray, Is this the right Heli for the job? It's 14x1.25 but says it's for spark plugs. The local auto supply has them: https://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/HEL-5334-14.html

    Self-tapping Drain Plug

Thanks, Mike. I had checked this stuff already and hadn't found the plug size stated anywhere.

    Self-tapping Drain Plug

By "poor luck" do you mean that you had trouble installing them and had to abandon the effort or do you mean that the install went fine but the plug eventually came out and dumped hot oil all over your rear tire at 70 mph?

    Self-tapping Drain Plug

A little too much torque on the plug with a 1/2 socket and my oil pan drain threads are stripped. Does anyone know what the correct size self-tapping drain plug for an '06 is? I'd like to try this solution before I attempt a new oil pan. Thanks John

    Leanings by Peter Eagan

Go with the Multistrada. You won't regret it. You can get hard bags and a trunk from Ducati and other sources (Givi, Hepco-Becker).

Need some Help on a 2001 Vulcan 1500 Fi Classic

I used the Leather-lyke hard bags on my 2000 1500FI. They looked good, were water tight and were easily removeable not to mention at a reasonable price. Here's the link: https://www.hoese.com/stores/showdetl.cfm?&...=19&CATID=3

If it is below 40 deg F, should I have the middle cowl open or closed

If it is below 40 deg F, should I have the middle cowl open or closed

Sorry, Doctor, but this link proves nothing since it doesn't indicate which way is warmer and which is cooler. My conversation with a Yamaha "product specialist" indicated that "out" is warmer because it deflects cool air away and "in" is cooler because it doesn't. Personally, I leave mine in...

If it is below 40 deg F, should I have the middle cowl open or closed

This is exactly the opposite of what Yamaha claims. They say: Vent open = warmer for the rider because cool air is deflected away from the rider. Vent closed = cooler for the rider because cool air is NOT deflected away from the rider.

    Just installed Leo Vince

You are correct. This is a baffle so that these can conform to some European standards which are more restrictive. Yes, it goes where you thought it would. I would leave them off unless you want "super stealth" mode.

Adding the feed for BatteryTender and vest with an 07

You got a cap with your pigtail? I didn't. What will happen if the "+" lead contacts metal ... a blown fuse? I've had battery tender pigtails without fuses attached to all my bikes over the years and never had a problem. Just lucky?

    Is FJR right for me?

I had an '01 Bandit 1200S before my FJR. I loved the bike but, like you, wanted more wind protection, standard luggage, less vibration and less maintenance. The FJR was (and still is) the answer. At the time (about 18 months ago) the competition was the Kawi Concours (the old design) and the...
