    Tour of the Pyrenees 2008

At the moment I'm not even sure if I'll be able to leave the UK. French fishermen are blockading the channel ports protesting against rising fuel costs and the channel tunnel could close at any time. Dave

A bit of the Splugen Pass

There's the Passo de Tremelzo. Officially closed to traffic now but still used by the intrepid few. And here's the west ramp. And more hairpins in tunnels on the Passo San Boldo

Quincy for lunch, Ride May 17th

I'm sure I'm blushing now. Thanks for the comments, I'm still learning how to use the editing programs but I'm getting there. Hopefully I'll be able to add several from the western USA, I'm sure the Sierra Nevada and Rockies will match (or even surpass) the Alps. Dave

The Alps are alive to the sound...

Thanks for your comments Don. I can't take to much credit for this one as I just provided the camera, others did all the hard work while I was leading the group. If you have a DVD machine capable of playing PAL format discs I could make you a copy of the 80 minute version including the Stelvio...

Quincy for lunch, Ride May 17th

Thanks for the invitation Mike. Nearer the time I'll be posting in the ride planning forum asking for all kinds of advice and anyone will be welcome to join me for a days riding. I'll be joining this tour organised by FlyRideUSA in Oregon and once I have the full itinerary I'll post it here...

The Alps are alive to the sound...

of motorcycle engines. But not mine this year so I've been looking at my old videos. You may like this one from the Tirolean Alps just south of Landeck. Off to the Pyrenees next week to meet up with Stef and then the Sierra Nevada and Rockies in September so I will get my fix of mountain roads.

Quincy for lunch, Ride May 17th

Thanks for the report and pictures. Less than 4 months before I'll be riding some of those roads, I'm even beginning to look forward to 3 flights in 24 hours just to get to Joseph, OR before I pick up the bike :D

    Tour of the Pyrenees 2008

Have a safe journey, hopefully some of the passes are open now. Bike has just been serviced and I set out next Saturday for a slow (mostly on small D roads) but interesting ride through France before arriving in Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon. Your bottles of Glenfiddich Liquer are securely...

    Downloadable CD Rom for FJR

Hi Glenn If you go into your local Yamaha dealer they will order a manual for you. In my case it had to be printed and bound in Japan and took several months to arrive but it only cost about £30 which I consider good value for about 500 pages. As to Haynes, I called into their head office and...

    Quincy for lunch

Can't make it for May 17, but I will be passing through Quincy on my way from Chester to S. Lake Tahoe on Sept. 10 so I'll be sure to stop and have a coffee there. Looking forward to a ride report as it will help build the anticipation of a special vacation.

    Tour of the Pyrenees 2008

Snow is about 1.5 metres at the pass. There is a road under there, somewhere.

    Tour of the Pyrenees 2008

Thanks Stef. I'll be heading down from Foix on the 27th so I would expect to arrive in BCN early afternoon in time for the party. Are you sure you do not need any deposits? Dave

    Stelvio Pass on Top Gear

On the Stelvio Pass during our Alpine tour in 2006. I can just be seen several corners ahead trying to keep up with our host, Klaus, of the Hotel Enzian in Landeck. As he was on a KTM 950 Adventure, I didn't stand a chance.

    Isle of Mann

I never used to ride around the course on Mad Sunday, its far too dangerous. But it was fun sitting behind the sandbags with a pint of ale at the "Greg" watching the last minute panic braking or escape road antics.

    Isle of Mann

It has been many years since I last visited the island but I doubt much has changed. 1 Yes you can move from one part to another, but only from a few carefully chosen points. You would need to study a good map to find the best routes ( an Ordnance Survey 1:50000 is probably best). Probably not...

Mexican Hat and parts a wee bit more east -

Kaitsdad, thanks for the report. I'll be staying in Mexican Hat in September as part of my American West tour so it's good to hear more about the area, really builds up the anticipation. I've already decided to head up the Moki Dugway now I'll have to try and fit in Four Corners. Three weeks in...

Run Up the Beartooth Highway Video

Thanks, pretty much what I expected. Probably save it for the next trip in a few years time.
