Don't think I would care to be sharing the roadspace with too many large trucks. Looks pretty hairy with some nice loose gravel on the turns. I think I prefer the 'Merican roads. Thanks.

Gee, a hairpin turn "inside" a tunnel. That new to me.

I don't think that guy got out of first gear did he?

And here I am thinking "pass" means "accessible path through mountainous terrain" or something like that. I wonder what the inaccessible part looks like!

There's the Passo de Tremelzo. Officially closed to traffic now but still used by the intrepid few. And here's the west ramp.

And more hairpins in tunnels on the Passo San Boldo

Dave, Many years ago 6 of us in my BMW club rode the areas around Lake Garda, We were all on BMW RT's, except for one GS rider. We rode Passo de Tremelzo on the west ramp until we hit dirt and we RT riders stopped. Our GS mounted friend pushed on and we said we would see him back at the hotel in Riva. We lingered for a while yakking/smoking away.

Not 5 minutes later our GS buddy returned to us at the pavement/dirt transition. He said he didn't want to die on Tremelzo!

October of 2004 my girlfriend Rena and I were on Edelweiss Bike Tours High Alpine Adventure and rode Passo di San Boldo.

EBT had us staying in a beautiful lodge in Bolzano. One of our riders on a BMW R1100S unfortunately crashed in one of those first hairpin tunnel turns on our way from Belluno to Valdobbiadene. He was wearing prescription dark glasses under the clear shield of his Arai. And when he transitioned from the bright sunlight to the grey-whitish walls he lost all his depth perception.

He broke the right jug off of the boxer twin and his right arm/collarbone. An off duty Italian fire fighter drove him into Trento!

The San Boldo Pass road was built in 100 days during WWI by Austrian sappers with the use of POWs (aka slave labor). The guardrails were added just a while ago and a lot of die-hard pass fanatics now call the San Boldo Pass a road "for sissies"   It has lost a bit of character, though...
