I'm always humbled by the riding community.

Although there was some brute force to get those tires mounted, It was a pretty straight forward process. I have rebuilt engines and a transmission or two but always shied away from mounting my own tires. Not anymore. I will be mounting my own from here on. Thanks Mike for the Edumacation!

I'm always humbled by the riding community.

Probably the most ironic thing of this whole "teachable moment" is, historically in all the tires I have had mounted in the past, in over 200K miles of riding, this is the first time I didn't change the tires early. This was my first recreational ride in 2 years, so not particularly happy with...

I'm always humbled by the riding community.

I have riding for more than two decades, which is hard for even me to comprehend. During that time I have always been amazed by the kindness and generosity of the riding community. Trying to save a few bucks and maximize the mileage on the OEM set of metzlers. This happened.. TripperMike...

MN/WI Saturday Sept 3rd Letter Road Riding Anyone?

Those tires still had 1000 hard riding miles left to them. The exposed cords help with cold weather traction. In my extreme attempt to be frugal, I neglected the tires a little too much. We made it home. MANY MANY thanks tripper Mike for the used tires and the effort to swap them. I will...

Back to the FJR, Again, From the Super Ténéré?

I went from a 12 tenere to a 10 FJR. There Tenere was great when I lived out in the pacific northwest and regularly visited the mountains with forest service roads, but after moving to to Minnesota, and 8500 miles of almost exclusively super slab, the Tenere left a lot to be desired. I wanted...

Is an oil cooler a bonus, a premium adder?

For starters, nothing is added to a car or truck or a motorcycle that isn't deemed required. Oiler coolers represent hours of engineering effort, and cost. Manufacturers are are always on a quest to reduce cost. So the OEM installs and oil cooler, it's there for a reason. Victory...

MN/WI Saturday Sept 3rd Letter Road Riding Anyone?

I have spousal buy in. I very well may be in.

    OUCH.

The only bike I ever owned that was actually comfortable out of the box with nothing needed over stock, aside from air deflectors was the Victory Vision. Everything else needed some love to make it comfortable. With the FJR, I get more discomfort from leg position than I do from the stock...

    Goodbye y'all and thanks

Well that sucks. I went from two bikes to one, when we had our first. Before we even got married I said I will never stop riding. I would consider a Polaris slingshot these days so I could take one of the kids, but that thing isn't a bike.

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

I am going to be converting about 8 pounds of flank steak to jerky this weekend in my Rec Tec Pellet smoker in preparation for a camping trip to the UP this August. Can't wait for both! May experiment with some Indian inspired marinades this time.

    McCruise Control

Sounds great! Glad to hear it. I have had the same experience from my Rostra. I use cruise control more often than manually manipulating the throttle. Set and forget.

    Seth Laam FJR custom seat

You live in Seattle, why not ride the 600 miles to redding CA to have Seth do your seat? I did that with my Super Tenere. Rode down, used points for a hotel room, drank some beers by the pool, met Seth at his shop in the morning, few hours later I was headed back to Seattle, where I rode 500...

FZ1 Mirrors OEM vs. Overseas FZI replacement

Yes. The FZ1 mirrors are a massive difference over the OEM mirrors. Prices have gone up since this thread was started, but I bought OEM FZ1 mirrors from Bike Bandit with an AMA discount for about $75 each. That was the best price I had the patients to find at the time. On a scale from...

    accessory outlets

I installed a fused direct wired powerlet to the body panel close round to me where I felt I could eventually plug in for heated gear. I also use this for the battery tender tie in and to run my compressor. My GPS is hardwired into the cig power outlet, and my heated grips use the OEM heated...

Complete Rostra CC install without the UNIVERSAL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH?

Someone on the Super Tenere forum used a 2013 left side FJR switch cluster to integrate CC Switches on his bike. https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=8043.0 I consider doing the same on my FJR with the Rostra however the cost of the switch housing is out of my reach at the moment...
