    Soft Keys?

This. After many many years of no bent keys my 05 FJR and 09 Versys key can get a bit twisted easily. I'm a bit more deliberate these days. Re WD40 in locks: I love the stuff for many uses but it does leave a sticky film after drying. Not something I use in locks.

Angels Crest and Big Bear in December

I live in the foothills of Mt Baldy. Angeles Crest is open but we're expecting a storm Thu night and Friday with a temp drop.

    Motoport visit

I visited Wayne at the Motoport factory and ordered a two piece kevlar mesh suit back in 2008. While I don't agree with all of Wayne's opinions and know more than one person that has had trouble getting a decent fit I'm a very happy Motoport customer. My suit has seen snow and ~20F to Cali...

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

Just a clarification here. The CHP wasn't pressured to remove it by anti-lane sharing folks. A CHP officer referred to them during a traffic stop. This screwed the pooch as non-legislators are not supposed to be publishing materials that could be construed as having the force of law. WRT...

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

Don't need a report to tell me what 36 years of experience lane sharing has taught me but suppose validation cannot hurt :)

European tours 2015? Any interest? Recommendations?

Yep we were on one or two rides together back ~2006. For the Edelweiss portion I was on a 1200 Multistrada and for the DIY a BMW 800 ST. Neither are all that large but with Edelweiss hauling the luggage I'd have preferred a supermoto. Lots of hairpins :) Hauling my own luggage something like...

European tours 2015? Any interest? Recommendations?

In summer '11 my friend Allan and I did the Edelweiss High Alpine Tour. It was great but definitely a premium price. When we returned to Munich from that I picked up a rental from the big BMW store, rode to Andermatt, and did a week of day trips. There's ride report here (probably requires...

    Driving while high?

Heh. All the folks I know that smoke weed in public (and many of the cig smokers I know) have gone to vaporizers for obvious reasons. Since my commute is on 210 I get far more diesel, bakery, and brewery smells than cig and weed. When I spent a lot of time on 55 I swore I could smell the bad...

Weird handling after GIVI top box

45L Givi top box + vstream + gps-reported speeds up to 120 mph (so far) + 36/42 psi. No more impact to handling than what I'd expect from a top case + current wind conditions.

Closer to The Edge - The Movie

You know you've watched that movie a few times too many when you can actually understand Guy Martin. I went to the 2013 TT. Picked up a (what else) Triumph rental outside of London, back roads to Liverpool to catch the ferry. Don't put it off.

My tire wore down on one side more than the other

Some premature wear on the left in countries that drive on the right is a matter of turn radius and distance traveled. The only time I've worn a tire prematurely on the right is on my track bike running Streets of Willow clockwise.

    Another FJR does the Dalton

Here's my ride report on my trip to Deadhorse. It's a bit short on pics as my time off from work was limited but you might enjoy it. https://www.gotfz1.com/alaska2014/

    FJR1300 Adventure series 1.

Maybe I should look into those tkcs. That said LA to Prudhoe in eight days on my '05 with PR4s worked out ok. Only a few pucker moments: deep loose gravel in a construction zone and southbound on the Dalton after it had rained overnight turning construction hard pack to soft mud.

    Rick Mayer seat Gen II

If the seat was made with a deep bucket it's less likely to work across body shapes. I inherited a Rick Mayer made for a slightly longer person but since it's level and shallow it works great for me.
