Death Valley Dualsport or Street ride January 23-27

Hey there Bug! Happy New Year to you and Gayle This sounds totally cool. Speaking of cool, how heavily do you gear up for these rides? Gotta be pretty cold in the morning and evenings, like mid-20's, and maybe 50ish for highs?

    2019 Iron Butt Rides

I rode the Lost Coast 2 years ago and can give you some skinny on what's there, all the way from Ferndale, down Mattole Road, to Shelter Cove, then exiting south onto 101 near Rockport using Usal Road in the south. Usal road was a fun ride on my KTM690 but would be pretty much impossible I think...

Just Purchased a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT This Morning!

Your excitement for the Tracer GT has me thinking of cashing in two of my current bikes for one - the FJR and Ninja 1000. Wife would be happy in reducing my inventory by 1 (from 6 to 5), and I'd be happy to replace an '08 and a '14 for a '19! Cruise control, heated grips, traction control...

Just Purchased a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT This Morning!

Adjustments for chain tension are in my experience, extremely infrequent - as in almost never outside of your tire changes. Since you drop the chain with every tire change you're by default adjusting the chain slack at that point. Within the life of a tire you might have to adjust it once - I...

    First sport bike

With small tracks and short straights, a liter class supersport is going to mean more turning effort in the corners, and less TFO time to make up the difference, and the high burn rate on tires to boot. An R6 is the closest thing to a race bike out of the box and there are 100's of them...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

I really suggest everyone consider using a phone for your navigation needs instead of these outrageously expensive motorcyle-centric units. I've been using Motion-X GPS on my iPhone for years and it is fantastic, especially if you're going to be going outside of cell range and will be venturing...

BMW s1000xr ridden to the max

Seems to me that the top box is actually part of the setup. Early on he's past vertical with the box scraping the pavement - I'm thinking that's a nice "wheel" back there that prevents him from looping it.

International seller of used cop shocks?

That's the way I recall that discussion as well - pre-emptive upgrades meaning brand new stock shocks with 0 miles being available for sale as "used".

    Monterey Peninsula and Indian Valley

The stretch of pavement between 198 and San Miguel (Peach Tree Road and Indian Valley Road) is one of the most beautiful, entertaining and underappreciated roads that I know of. We probably shouldn't be talking about it if we want to keep it that way!

    Tenere 700 World Raid

Except for the approximately bajillion of them out there that will eventually be put up for sale!

    Took the FJR offroading today......

I don't think I'd even remember what happened after something like that, much less try to describe it via an online post! Congrats on your quick wits, cat-like reflexes, and ability to laugh about it just a few hours later :)

    Central California Foothills

The weather around here has been beautiful recently so you picked a good time for those areas! A lot those roads that keep you off the interstates east of San Francisco Bay are quite lonely and as you say are a lot of fun to ride :) Thanks for sharing

    2019 FJR1300

Not recommended to be used with Side Cases ????? So you can have a huge top case, but lose the side cases. Seems like an odd series of "upgrades" you have to pay for that nets you less actual cargo room...

    EOM 2018 - Home Safe

I see that the dots are a lot close together on the way home Brodie - what happened - riding into a headwind? :) Will you get the prize for the longest commute to EOM?

    Ivan's ECU Flash

Ivan's website lists that he has ECU flashes for the Concours ('02 to '17) and the ZX14 ('12 to '15) but no mention of the Honda or BMW.

    Reuben Run #8

Man are you organized - the meet is only just finished and next years' is already on the books! You're a role model for everyone to follow (at least regarding meet planning )

    2015 Yamaha FJR 1300 ES – $9,900

I don't know if this is systemic or a matter of mileage, but the '16ES I rode at the dealer with the 6 speed tranny was BUTTER smooth - way better than the clunky transmission on my '08. I considered that a better upgrade than having the 6th gear. My bike has a nice solid "CHUNK" every time...

Upgrade 2006 FJR - Is there Something Better?

If you're interested, here's my overall summary of the Ninja 1000: 1) Great engine for commuting - gets about 38-40mpg, and built for a very flat torque curve from low rpms, so it scoots away from traffic lights with ease. a) I've geared it longer so it cruises at lower RPM on the freeway...

Upgrade 2006 FJR - Is there Something Better?

You have stumbled onto one of the the most liberating notions on the planet - you don't need one motorcycle to do everything!! Once you get to Number 2 (and I don't mean the biological #2) you realize that the it gets much easier to get to #3, #4, and so on..... My stable is currently: 2008...
