Thank you both. I squished the cable on an earlier bike, maybe a GL1800, and I notched the box a little so the lid didn't deflect when closed. I think I'll locate the drain grommet and run the cable through there. Bill

Thank you both, those were really quick responses. My son's father-in-law mentioned he and a friend also learned the hard way - on the side of the road. He cautioned me to look in the owners manual that comes with the bike, but I could not locate it. Thanks so much Bill

I just gor an 08 AE and have already made this mistake. Had to use the foot shifter to get on down the road. I'm searching this forum to see how to get the bike into neutral if I can't start the engine. Do you know the procedure? Thanks - Bill
