REVISED POLL - How old are you

70 years old. Been a motorcyclist since 1963. I can still hold my own in the canyons with the sport bike riders. Also won a competition involving slow speed manuevers at a MSF course, competing against riders who were all younger than me. Have had the FJR up to an indicated 150 mph and...

    Odometer Calibration

Thanks. I've only recently learned what a GPS is, and from the little reading I've done, it appears that they're only accurate to within a couple of meters. My old-fashioned measuring device and procedure are better than that. I experimented with speed/distance calculations while attending...

    Odometer Calibration

Thanks, Warchild. I'm not at all irritated by a +1.5% odo inaccuracy. I was concerned by the +20% error I was seeing, when comparing to the mileposts. If my odo was adding 20%, I was averaging 48 mpg. If my odo was dead accurate, I was averaging only 40 mpg. 6 gallons x 48 mpg = 288 miles...

    Odometer Calibration

Thank you. There are so many abbreviations used on this forum I'm often left in the dark. The GPS sounds useful. Not sure I can justify buying one, though. I'm technologically challenged - struggling along with an analog brain in a digital world. I'll ask my disgustingly smart...

    Odometer Calibration

Your 51 mpg makes me feel better about my own mpg calculations. Since Yamaha estimates 39 mpg on average, I was wondering if I had miscalculated. I'm in Cochise County, 11 miles north of the Mexican border. The roads here are mostly flat, fairly straight, and BORING! I'm joining a local MC...

    Odometer Calibration

A Rolatape is a measuring wheel, not a tape measure. It doesn't care what the temperatue is. What's a GPS?

    Odometer Calibration

A few weeks ago I posted (in New Members) a concern I had with my 2008 FJR1300A odometer. Comparing my bike's odometer reading to roadside mileposts, my odometer recorded a 20% longer distance than the mileposts indicated. Warchild, and others, told me that much error was unusual. One member...

    Braking and ABS... I believe!

Whoops! In the preceding post I accidentaly inserted my reply right in the middle of your story. This is how I intended it to look. That's an excellent account of your ABS "adventure". I could absolutely picture the entire scenario as you described it. Well done, and I'm glad you escaped...
