i'm no expert but here's my 2 cents... the d90 + 70-200VR is an excellent combo for track shots IF you can get close enough to the action... if not, i recommend you consider a longer lens or bring a tc (if it's a bright day)... i generally stick to the center focus point, af-c, shutter...
