    Michelin Pilot Road-2

What's your freaking problem with me? Somehow I don't think you're as stupid as your comments make you look, but if you don't have something positive to contribute, just shut the **** up. And although you call yourself a clown, you're not funny at all. And if I take 5-6 years to replace my tires...

In support of home wheel balancing

Take a wild guess. Hint: Answer starts with '$' :P . But yes, doesn't take more than a minute to put a wheel on a static balancer and mark heavy spot. And I agree the whole assembly should be balanced as a unit, not the wheel first; if light spot on tire is aligned with heavy spot on wheel...

    second cam chain tensioner

That 5K miles on the 2nd one sounds suspect. At some point you'll have to take a look at all cam chain related parts; maybe at the next valve check. Good luck. JC

    Old seat belt protects rim

    +1. Bump! :)

My new rear tire has rotated 12" relative to the rim!

The scary part about slipping is not while accelerating; it's while BRAKING. I can skimp on a lot of things, but not on motorcycle tires. Good day. JC

How do you know ABS is working on an '07?

And how do you know? Just look at the FACTS. Don't have my BMW with me anymore, but all of them have a ring just below the rotor (I'm sure you're familiar with them), that I'm guessing has at least 100 holes, or an accuracy of 3.6º (100/360). The FJR seems to have 20 at the most, or an accuracy...

    Michelin Pilot Road-2

May I ask you what did you mean by 'rumble'? That graph you mentioned would help A LOT :dribble: . And would like your input on where the Z6 fits, which is like a sister to the Strada. There's a new one just out, called Z6 something. Finally, if you care to opine on best tire for my riding...

    Saddlebags- On or Off?

I only use them on long trips, which are once or twice a year. No such option, so voted 'bags off'. Later. JC

    Saddlebag Seal - Any advice

I used my bags for the first time on a trip last week, and although didn't hit any rain, I noticed they don't close flush all around, and cannot be fixed as everything is riveted in place (can't move a rivet 1/32"). And that was without having put anything inside yet (brand spanking new, out of...

How do you know ABS is working on an '07?

Actually they do... momentarily; that's when the ABS computer gets the signal. Think about it, and it only makes sense. Once a wheel locks, ABS is supposed to kick in immediately afterwards. Anyway, what I meant was to go fast enough that wheels can lock (or not) enough to feel ABS working...

    Changing Brake Fluid ABS

I wouldn't use vacuum to bleed ABS brakes; BMW also warns against it. Just do it the old fashioned way, by pumping the lever and pedal. Remember you have TWO circuits on the front right caliper. The way to circumvent draining the ABS pumps is to bleed your system every year; that's what I do...

    Oil Filters

After seeing the price of an oil filter at a local dealer, I balked. Even on Ebay they're like $16, and that's if you buy many. But before starting a new thread, I searched, and found some good info. Go to the 'bin of facts', and you'll find all the info you need (including useful links). Look...

    why so tall?

I don't feel safe not being able to flat-foot on a bike, and fortunately, I can barely do so on sport-tourers like the FJR with my 31" inseam. But other people are okay with the increased risk of dropping a bike due to lack of reach. Or are willing to lower the bike, which I don't, since I ride...

First Time at the Drag Strip

I was asking myself the same thing. I'm a freaking stick at 155# and 'only' 5'10". If true, how can you even pull the bike off its sidestand  ?? You must look like a Darfur survivor, but in white  . Good day gang. JC

07A eng. & ABS lights on Lost speedo and odo

Now that you know where the problem is, I'd find out WHERE the speedo sensor is (somewhere in the tranny), remove and clean the connector, and put some dielectric grease on it. If it works, you saved youself a lot of time and aggravation. If not, then take it in for sure. Good luck. JC

Inexpensive front end stand that works great

That's good enough for me while removing the front tire. After removing it, I'd do what I always do on my other bikes: insert the axle and hold the bike with ONE jack stand in the middle of the axle. Good day folks. JC

How do you know ABS is working on an '07?

Thank you for those great replies; greatly appreciated. My brakes are probably working okay, ABS just seems to react slowly before engaging. And yes, '06 and '07s are the same; system changed in '08. I'll have to test my brakes where I can lock them a little longer to feel the system engage...

    peg lowering kit

To me, riding is all about the curves, so I'd take the car rather than putting lowering pegs on a marginal bike like the FJR. What I did is install aluminum pegs (Oberon) which lowered them about 1/3", but increased clearance (but no more feelers). That little increase did the trick for me, but...

    Battery

Do you know how many the WestCo has, and how many the OEM? Are they about the same weight? And What's WestCo model #? Thx. JC

How do vacuum cruise control units work?

I was referring to straight mountainous roads, where you ascend and descend constantly. And as a counterpoint, you shouldn't use c/c on a bike without the hands on the bars, period. With a throttle rocker (my favorite mod), you can relax your hand without removing it from the bars. I only use...
