    Shaft Servicing Duration

People panic about the splines at the front of the shaft being greased, but there is approximately zero movement at the splines. It's an assembly feature, not an operational feature.

Difficulty starting with a warm engine

Pretty much guaranteed it won't be the relay, not with the issue being temperature-sensitive, even after what MotoMike said above, at least I've never seen that reported anywhere else. Easy enough to check, though, and certainly easier than checking the startee! I went through it several years...

Gen 1 valve clearance check info/help

When I did mine, I only had one valve out of spec, and another that was in spec but barely. It turned out that swapping those two shims brought both nearly center of spec! It sucks opening the thing up with the assumption that you won't need shims and then finding out you have to wait for some...

    FJR 1300 Rear Trunk

Just a bit vague... You're asking if a trunk for a 2024 will fit a 2024, and my first guess would be... YES! As for the rest of it, what's needed, depends entirely on the brand of box you're looking at. Givi has their own plate, Yamaha's basic box fits right onto the stock rack, their...

    Odd 1st gear issue

That detent spring comes to mind for me, too. if it's a bit weak, the shift drum can maybe roll out of neutral if it takes a jostle. That neutral notch is WAY smaller than the notches between gears! You'll need to remove the clutch basket to really see it, which brings its own set of problems...

Do you need private medicare insurance if you are on Medicare?

I went with a Plan G for mine, because the no-addition-premium Advantage plans don't cover dialysis, and while you can change from one of those plans to a Supplement like Plan N or Plan G and get that coverage, you can't switch once diagnosed as needing dialysis. My kidney lab numbers are not...

    Anyone use tank bags?

    Nelson-Rigg CL-350, but it's not in their current lineup, I don't think.

Wendy Crockett and Ian McPhee ride a little ride...

I bought the Kindle version. (I can't tell you the last time I bought a physical book to read!) I have to say that I am truly offended by the level of swearing that Wendy turns out to be capable of!!! Wait!!! How did "amused" get auto-corrected to "offended?!?" :p

    Anyone use tank bags?

I don't use a tank bag daily, but need it for travelling. This is my load to go to Sebring for the 12-hours one year. Not just clothes, shoes, and hats, but tent, sleeping bag and pillow, camp chair, rain gear, and my laptop and camera gear. That bag does hit the kill switch, so I keep my thumb...

    Wrist pain after 3 hours

Master Yoda works!!! My own self-test is to let go of the bars momentarily every so often. If I have to shift my weight to do so, then I'm not sitting correctly.

    Florida's tallest waterfall

The tallest waterfall in Florida is about 45 miles from my house, and while it's not anywhere near as spectacular as Niagara or Yosemite, and is actually bone dry when there hasn't been any rain for a while, we did have a pretty good rain Friday night, so I rode up to have a look yesterday. The...

FJR in the Barber Motorsports museum ?

Much of what they have is not on display. On the website they say that about 900 bikes are on display at any given time, of the over 1600 that they have. I was there one day when the bottom floor was actually open to visitors, and the door to the warehouse area was open, although we were not...

More RPM vs speedo but different...maybe

Try this: Stay in 5th, slow down until you're about 1,000 RPM. Don't nail the throttle, but roll it in all the way. The bike will pull smoothly, no missing or bucking, for as long as you dare keep it pinned. That probably violates Ignacio's "lugging," but not for very long!

    03 Won't Start

I agree with the ignition switch as the likely culprit. Its a dual-pole switch, with one circuit being what you think it is, the power to the bike. The other circuit connects the sidestand switch to the ECU, and if that circuit is not connected in the switch, the ECU thinks the sidestand is...

    Ebay special Kawai H2SXSE

Gen-II with 5480 miles? They don't like it very much do they? I wouldn't even know how to treat a bike that sat that long. Has it even needed tires? I'll tell you this, though, I bought my '03 for that money back in 2007, with 47,000 on it. Make of those facts what you will.

    05 FJR cluth wore out?

Brass bushing in the clutch lever. It's a known wear item, there to do exactly that, thus protecting other parts of the system. Mine was worn so badly that the pin had punched through the back of the bushing and was most of the way through the lever handle where the bushing sits.

    Turn signal lights.

The turn signals do not remain on, that's running lights, which are required in the US. The turn signals are a separate light source in the same housing, flashing brighter with turn signals or hazard lights activated. The running lights are on the same circuit with the tail lights, and switched...

what would you have to do to put cruise control on 2012 from a newer bike

Since the 2013+ is throttle-by-wire, and that's how the cruise manages the throttle (electronically,) it simply can't be made to work on pre-2013. It's not a separate package of electronics or mechanicals, as stated above. The aftermarket is all you can do. I've had an Audiovox on my 2003 that I...

    Broken part confirmation

If it's anything like earlier gens, you have to remove the nose as a unit, headlights and all. The nose is bolted to the headlight assembly with bolts you can't reach while the assembly is on the bike. In your very first picture, that Philips screw at the left is one of four that holds the...
