    not another aux tank thread!

Here was my idea for aux fuel, built and installed on my BMW R1100S (back in 2007). I wanted some extra fuel but wanted to stay with the sleek lines of this bike. I was preparing for a cross country ride, Phila to LA, which I accomplished easily in 4 days. Then I departed to make a 50cc ride...

    Voltage Drop Mystery

Thanks very much. I think I had seen (parts of?) that thread while searching for key words. Gratifying to see that I (also) have found the root of the problem - the harness from the R-R is a bit flimsy plus the ground loops are 'whispering down the lane'. My idea of parallel feeds to the...

    Voltage Drop Mystery

Background: I bought this bike (2009 with 24K miles, totally stock) last Nov from an independent dealer in SC. Was not able to directly contact the previous owner but after calling a few Yamaha dealers I found the one which had serviced this bike. According to the service dept the bike had...

Valve check-ever been tempted to re-shim the entire valvetrain?

Well, now that YOU are the expert I will invite you down to my workshop in Richmond (only 240 miles from Villanova) to help when I check my valves sometime in the next few weeks. I bought ALL of the gaskets, o-rings, etc, plus I bought those special cover plates to get rid of the messy...

I want/need a local tech session near Philadephia - who wants to join me?

Probably works for me (5-24 Sat). I'm prepping to check (and adjust ??) my valves at 30K miles, IN MY GARAGE in Richmond. Really would like to watch you first! And a nice 600 mile day! Stuart

    Voltage reading a bit low?

UPDATE - 4-23 I accessed the R/R unit today, removed the plugs for cleaning and dielectric grease. Looked fine, no signs of overheating or corrosion. Took the opportunity to measure the voltage drop between the RR Red connection and the battery + terminal. At 3000 RPM with NO accessory loads...

    Voltage reading a bit low?

Fred: I'll be checking this out this evening. I've had several machines over the years which exhibited similar 'low' charging voltages due to poor connections in and out of the R/R/. And I've replaced more than one unit and had the voltage jump right up to 14.0 just above idle. I see some...

    Voltage reading a bit low?

Now below is the same reply I added to the OTHER thread. How can we combine them into 1 ??? Yes - somehow I've started two threads. But replies are still coming in on both. I've rechecked voltages right at the battery terminals. Key OFF - 12.89V at battery. Healthy and well charged...

    Voltage reading a bit low?

Hi - see my reply on the other thread. I've re-wired the Datel directly to the battery and have higher readings with various loads. Still not quite 14, however. When I ride up to your tech gathering I"ll show you what I've done under the driver's seat. Fuse block, 40A relay, #10 leads from...

Yes - somehow I've started two threads. But replies are still coming in on both. I've rechecked voltages right at the battery terminals. Key OFF - 12.89V at battery. Healthy and well charged! Running at 3000 RPM -13.5V with no accessory loads. Datel off acc fuse block reading 13.3...

    Voltage reading a bit low?

I purchased a 2008 FJR last Nov, with about 25,000 miles, totally stock. The battery had just been replaced by the dealer. I was able to contact the dealer where most previous maintenance work had been done by PO. Was confirmed that the 'sub-harness' and ignition key (?) recall had been done...

    tapered steering-head bearings

I replaced my OEM steering head bearings with tapered roller at only 25K miles. Steering was becoming 'notchy' with any front brake applied - a very wierd feeling. I first ordered standard bearings from the dealer, about $100 with the seals. Then decided to do the tapered roller and purchased...
