Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

The ride was WAAAAY better than ever! The bike shifts so smoothly and damn she goes super quick. Only rarely went fast enough to use 5th gear and am finding that it works best to keep the rpm's higher. I stuck to the leader (on F6B) like glue through the twisties and the wetness was only...

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

GOT HER HOME YESTERDAY!!! Going riding with the club to western Wisconsin in the rain-ish today and eager to see how it goes! I'll be glad to be on double darkside tires because the rain should prevent the inevitable crash and burning that must result from such an unwise practice (I had about...

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

About the shop, I'm with you cuz the hits keep comin'. When they got back to me they already had my old motor out and new one in the frame so we didn't go get it. BUT WE SHOULD HAVE! The oil pan swap was for checking out new motor internals (and because it was brand new on the old motor)...

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

Thank you all for your concern and input! The AE bike sale fell through so I got pissed & found an 06 motor with 17,000 miles on ebay for less than a grand shipped (unfortunately to the shop that still has the bike). When it arrived I went down and we spoke about switching oil pans (mine was...

Is it possible to swap just the motor of an AE to a 5 speed bike?

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

New solution - put a deposit down on 2007 AE model with <15000 miles for less than $4000 about 300 miles away. I can sell what I don't need from it and maybe break even, plus I know the motor runs and was not stressed in a crash. Also, they will take on trade at a tiny loss the 2000 Royal...

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

Thank you for all the thoughts everybody! There's no explanations from the shop. I have a line on a head and am jones-ing pretty badly to ride asap. If someone had a motor right now, I would probably jump on that, but I'm not finding one. My friend with same year FJR with similar mileage hit a...

Need top end for Gen 2 - ASAP!

Brought my well running 2010 dark side FJR with less than 40,000 miles to the shop in November for full monty Penske/Traxxion suspension upgrade, fix slipping second gear, and check/set valves. Per my word, I paid $1000 -1500 per month to cover expenses over the Minnesota winter and expected to...

    Going to the Dark Side

I never tried the Exalto, but I did begin my darkside journey with a General Altimax on my VTX 1800 and loved it, as well or better than some of the other 4 or 5 car tires I experimented with before her passing at almost 103,000 miles. The General was very stable on freeways 2-up, but not as...

    Going to the Dark Side

Well the Sunday ride was hot, long, twisty, hilly, and fast - this tire rocks! Sure it's asymmetrical, but I never noticed that to be an issue for handling or riding. The bike was sure footed and solid with no issues at all. My tire guy had an easier time putting it on than the G-Max and it used...

    Going to the Dark Side

We all see that voyeur culture has people dangerously rubber-neck at accident scenes and confirmation bias (against the idea of CT on MC) has them looking for the consequent flaming crashes that must certainly follow such a "foolish" decision. Either that or they're completely impressed at how...

    Going to the Dark Side

Coming home from leading the club ride last night with my wife on the back I had my first high speed motorcycle blowout! No problem though, I maintained control and got safely onto the shoulder. I'm not sure that situation would have worked as well with an m/c tire. When I converted the FJR to...

    Going to the Dark Side

Okay, so I got a photo bucket account - here's a link to some pics: https://s1356.photobucket.com Never used this before, not sure what works, but I'll try anything once, twice if I like it Guess that's why 2 double darks...

    Going to the Dark Side

Hey, I'm in winter hibernation in Minneapolis, but may get out my old 100,000 mile double darkside VTX today! My iPhone photos seem not to want to post on this forum from when I went double dark on my FJR last year. Oh, I can say that the pics of how my motorcycle rear tire on the front has...

    Going to the Dark Side

Hi gang! Just over a year with my 2010 FJR and I finally today converted to double darkside (again): G-Max 205-50-17 rear & Avon Roadrider AM 26 130/70/VR17 rear on the front. I was already double dark on my VTX, so does that make me the first double double dark FJR rider? I had some fitment...

    Going to the Dark Side

I use dynabeads in my dark side VTX 1800 - 4 oz. in rear tire 205 65 16 - they have a guide online for tire size/ounces. Had my 2010 FJR less than a year, got the brake bar, and considering car tire when PR4's wear out.
