for some reason Ford applies a constant vacuum to the hubs to keep them disengaged [2 wheel drive mode] poor design. The constant suction on the spinning hubs results in water [salt] being drawn in which will freeze  them in either 2 or 4 wheel drive...especially as the seals wear..Check for...

when I first got my FJR I hated the throttle response so I did the spring unwind.....Then the throttle was to light and wouldn't close all the way..I realized that the PO had already done it. I rewould the spring with a piece of curved wire, snagging the tang and pulling it back around ,which...

as mentioned, might be high line voltage...my FJ 12 had a bad R/R and ate bulbs as fast as I could replace them.. I put Silver Stars in my FJR and they only lasted about 3K.. finally went to Cree LED and they have been great..very white, good beam, and much less draw...

I routinely lift mine with a trolly hoist in my garage....for the front I remove the 2 bolts from the T bar in front of the tank and attach a small high grade chain with longer bolts and loop the chain over the hoist hook....for the rear 2 good nylon straps around the frame..[seat off]

how old is the battery ?....old batteries have higher resistance....do the headlights get brighter when revs are brought up?

slick setup..^^^^^^ assuming the remote has a strong enough signal to get thru the bike... this is the best arrangement
