Some initial thoughts.

  • It's a small bike compared to an FJR1300. Lighter too. Of course my FJR's are set for Long Distance rallying and are heavy.
  • Fueling is great across the rpm band. From 3k up it's strong all the way to red line. Maybe a *hint* of lean at 4k, but even that went away as the miles rolled on. Jack Wagner at Old School Carbs did a GREAT job.
  • Charging is a bit hot at 15 Vdc. Gotta check into that.
  • Need hi-way pegs.. Seriously.
  • Corbin seat way too hard. It's a rock. Sell and get Russell ASAP.
  • Some lower leg heat from engine, not as bad though as from the KZ1300.
  • Smaller ergo compartment. Legs bent at knees, too much angle. Change seat, raise padding will help.
  • At full song she sounds wonderful... Even with stock exhaust. Will not change out. This bike is too OEM and they are only orignal once.
  • At Denner vineyard, beautiful gate (see video) this guy is leaving in a Dodge Demon sp? and asks if I'm selling. Why I ask? Taking pictures to sell he says? No says I.. He says 81/82 CBX? 82 Say I. "Do you want to sell it?". Not really. "What's your crazy price?" I pause, say 30k, knowing it's waay to much. "Give me your name and number, I'll be in touch." Oh ****, this is my first ride! Time will tell. If he has 30k, it's gone.
  • The bike is tight. No wobbles, hands off bars and it's a straight line, no left or right leaning required.
  • It's fun to have a bike with a low seat height. Easy to mount and dismount.
  • Brakes are 80's feel. No ABS. Lots of lever/pedal pressure needed. It's and adjustment.
  • It's a heft to the centerstand.
  • The thrill from say 6k to redline is addicting! She pulls, then pulls harder as the rev's increase, then just pulls harder.. Breathtaking, and worth the entire price of admission
  • The rear shock sucks. Pressurized to factory manual settings, it still sucks at high speed impacts. It will be saved, but replaced
  • Front forks need heavier springs. Even pressurized at 11 psig, (10-13 per manual), they are soft. So soft up front, rock hard at high piston speeds in rear.
  • The saddle bags are more for looks than anything else! LOL
  • Front brake lever... too close to the bar for my fat fingers. Maybe a bleed is in order, but Ray did one.. So just might be what it is as it is.
  • Stopped in front of gated high $$$ community for pics.. and the guard came out. '**** thinks I'. He says 'beautiful bike'! We talk for 20 minutes. He's a gearhead too. If nothing else, the bike is worth the price of admission for that opportunity.
  • Well, that's it for now.. Gotta fix the overcharging issue. Bye.

Dang Mr. Carver, you've got TOO MANY toys.  Hard not to be jeally over here...

She does look good, even now in 2020.

Here's hoping her heart keeps pounding strong and true for years to come.

💪

I saw one of those in 1980 and just had to have one.  Sold my beautiful black 750F to make it happen.  Then life happened and I never got one. The music that 6 makes is just beautiful. Especially in a 6 to 1 Kerker.

I really hated to give this one back to him. Always thought the CBX was a great looking bike and this one is very nice. To bad he had to put that damn Carver tape on it to mark his spot. :nono:

This one stays stock. That's the beauty of this ride. They are only original once. My bud Jason has two CBX rides, one with a Spondon frame.. one a 6 into 1, one a 6 into 2 exhaust. We're going to set up sound equipment and make high speed passes with his two sixes and my two (Cbx, kz)

How does it go around a corner at a extreme (20 degree) lean angle?
Very light compared to FJR. Good lean angle, on par with FJR. Brakes, suspension far behind FJR.

Ahhhh, come on RayBob, you don't really want me scratching the paint from my Kevlar pants do yah? And be nice or I'll send a KZ1300 your way again! :)

I'm afraid if the KZ1300 returned, it could be a one way trip. It's not really a bad bike , it just hates me and the feeling is mutual.😝

Beautiful bike and great resto job. Brings me back, a lot of memories those were some good years and good times. 😁
Just for info, it's not a restoration but an original. It was carefully disassembled, everything cleaned and serviced by the book and put back to like new. The only things outsourced were getting the carbs done by a specialist and new oil cooler lines. I only wish I could have kept it but it does have a good home with lots of siblings.

Lust. Raw, disgusting, feral, ****ographic lust.  I wanted one of those in late 1979, and I want one today. (I have an original brochure from 1979). Great job, and great work keeping it original. And I concur; it does not and should never have aftermarket exhaust. Well done.

That engine was a visual masterpiece, especially when it was silver w/o the black paint.

Honda had a knack for producing really interesting power plants - the in-line 6, any of the V-4s (although early iterations had their issues, still a great looking engine), the transverse V - twin in the CX series, the flat 4 and 6 in the Gold Wing models.

All very interesting!

I'm running a DG 6-1 and it DOES sound sweet.. enough to turn the tunes off and rap the throttle...

Appreciate that. Rode the Kz1300 with DG 6-1 exhaust and have to admit I'm tempted to change CBX exhaust.. but won't. this one is tooooo OEM to phuck with..

I thought the Cbx was a high rev engine vs. mph.. but the Kz1300 is as bad, if not worse.. Always looking for 6th and 7th gear!
