Anybody know (even very close) official specs for 0-100 mph and 100-0 mph?

I tried holding the damn stopwatch and just could not adjust the windscreen fast enough!!! :D

Yuh doesn't hafta be adjustin' no steenking windshield. It goes in the full "down" position, hunker yerseff down onta thuh tank en let'er rip. Yuh godda be shiftin' twyste. Yee-freakin'-haw! Er, uhm, sow eye've herd. I'd also heard thet yuh godda watch the launch in furst geer 'cuz it'll lift the frunt wheel, then supposed tuh lift agin in second geer, then sum-wun sed it kindy bobbles the frunt wheel along the pavement en wunst yuh looks down at them gauges kluster yew kin sea yewer goin' reeely reely fast en yuh got thar purdy kwik. Et leest thet's whut I's been toll. Y'all be keerful, 'kay.

Please see the post that follows after BugR's, I edited this one to remove the body of the post. Didn't realize I could edit a post that had already been made. A delete button would be nice too.. Thanks, Radman for setting me straight. I 'll try not to hit the space bar when the post button has focus again .

For those of you who read this post yesterday, you are not seeing things, I thought a bit more about what I posted yesterday, and decided to run the numbers myself. This is an update to the original post.

I was wondering what the max speed in each gear is and at what speed the most torque occurs in each gear.

I collected the speed on an 05 FJR with about 2K miles on it using the speedo. I don't have a bar mounted GPS for more accuracy. Here is the data I got after two runs, trying to keep a steady throttle hand. I observed the following speeds by running at 4750 rpm and 3400 rpm. I doubled the speed results and what you see is presented in the table below.

I put in rev limited speed, even though the tach redlines at 9000 rpm.

____ Gear ________ max speed: ______ max torque speed:

_________________ 9500 rpm ________ 6800 rpm (per Ignacio's Bin of facts)

_____ 1 __________ 64 mph ___________ 44 mph

_____ 2 __________ 88 mph ___________ 64 mph

_____ 3 __________ 110 mph __________ 84 mph

_____ 4 __________ 144 mph _________ 104 mph

_____ 5 __________ 166 mph _________ 124 mph

Does this look about right to all of you guys who launch the front where in the first three gears now and then ? High 40ish, 60ish, 80ish mph, or are these numbers

too high ? :dribble:

I have never pushed my new FJR to anywhere near the top speeds indicated for 4th and 5th gears and I know from reading others posts these numbers seem high. Most folks who dared redline 5th gear never see much past 150 mph or so.

It would be nice if someone with a GPS and a steady throttle hand and an 05 FJR corroborate these speeds for me at 4750 and 3400 rpm to see if I was off.

I think anyone who posts a 0-100 time must be lying. I mean, that's faster than the speed limit, so how would anyone know??

Not sure the link would be accurate anymoer -- it lists times dated 9-Apr-2001, and the dry weight was listed as 521. Today's '06 is listed as 582 lbs on the yamaha website.

I am also curious as to the performance numbers for an '06 model.

Ah, that must be it. I feel better now, knowing that I'm not associating with a community of scofflaws. B)

There was a time I was afraid of my FJR. One day I was determined to overcome my fear of the performance abilities of this bike. I took a litle ride to my private, remote test track, stopped and aimed the bike South and let'er rip. No timer, just me and the pavement and the wind. What a rush for this old man! Trust me, it lofts and carries the front wheel easily in 1st and lofts again in 2nd while accelerating rapidly, shift into 3rd the bike settles as the front wheel bobbles along the pavement. YMMV.

Warning: Verily, verily I say unto you, the horizon approachest rapidly!

I've done it once and lived, so I suppose that began my mastery of the bike rather than my fear of the bike being master over me. Besides, adrenalin is a legal drug, even if the activity that stimulates it isn't.

Damn, there ain't a full set of chromosones among all my relatives, and I can't type like that! :D
It has nothing to do with chromosones, my friend. Merely a challenge to phonetically spell what my ears occaissionally hear. Californians are a rather mixed group and many have roots from "interesting" origins. I haven't figured out how to type a Jamaican accent. Dat wood be sumptin' to see, Mon! :D
