Hello all.. I have recently purchased an 04 with 30K on it and now I have 35K and have just noticed some issues. I recently checked the valves and changed all of the fluids and noticed that the CCT has started making noise (new one arrives today). Along with the CCT I just noticed that it seems like the clutch was slipping but after further investigation its not... when I accelerate hard as in passing I can only get it up to about 5K and it seems to not want to go any faster no matter how much throttle I give it, if i back off of the throttle then slowly give it some more I can start to accelerate.

I checked the TPS (it was replaced under warranty) and its fine. I ran the diags and there were two codes 30 (bike has been overturned) and12 (No normal signals are received from the crankshaft position sensor) is this because I didn't do something else while in the Diag mode?

I have cleared these out and will see if they come back..

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue before with the ability to accelerate? It seems to run fine at normal throttle and you can rev it all day long to red line when its not under a load.

Not a common complain, no.

The CPS error is not anything that you did. It is a real error. If that comes back next time you feel the symptom, that very well may be the problem.

The other thing I would think is possible based on your symptom description is spark plugs going bad (only happening under heavy load is a classic spark plug symptom).

But if the cam chain is making noise, get that fixed before you do any more heavy accelerations.

Another possibility is that you may have already jumped a tooth on the crankshaft sprocket. This would mess up your valve timing and may be what is causing you driving symptom. You do NOT want to jump any more teeth as the valves will hit the pistons and you will be out a bunch of money. Read up on the CCT replacement. You probably will want to pull the valve cover to check the timing since that is in doubt, and make sure that you restrain the chain from going slack while swapping out the CCT.

All good advice from Fred. Also, check around the timing cover and make sure you didn't pinch the wires of the crank sensor.

Looks like the A-Team has given you good advice...so I'll just sit here and enjoy their humor.

Hope to hear soon that your bike is back up and running how it should. :clapping:

Any chance one (or more) of the spark plug wire thingies aren't properly / securely seated atop the spark plug?

When you did the valve check, were the cams out to replace shims? If so, there is a possibility that the cams are off a tooth after re-installation. Quite easy to happen and must be double checked. This would give you significant power delivery issues. Unlikely to be the issue if the cams weren't out or the tension on the CCT wasn't released.

Keep an eye on the error codes but I would check the cam timing AND change out the CCT - ASAP.

Thanks for all of the good information.... I think this is it... I did catch the wires in the cover and realized that I did so.. I checked them and didnt think about this again until now. I am installing the CCT tonight and pulling the covers off of these wires and double checking this as I think that this is the problem...

I will post an update, thanks!

What Ion said. DAMHIK...

Changed out the CCT and found a pinched sopt on each of the crank sensor wires. This has solved all of the issues... Thanks for all of the information.

That's why this is the best forum around. The willingness to help out the unknowing ,but be carefully on Fridays, is fantastic. I have been printing out the pictorial directions on how

To do stuff since shortly after getting FJR in 04. I now have 2 large binders full of guidance and I have done stuff I never would have attempted without this forum.
