Except for the extra 10/15 pounds of useless weight it's carrying.

From one Porkasourus to another, do es 15 pounds REALLY matter, Howie?

One wonders if the ABS system should have been set up to go through a mechanical test cycle at each start-up or some time interval?

Run the ABS motor and pump some fluid through the system to keep it in a good working order.

Don't know how auto ABS systems are set up but I'd expect they do circulate fluid periodically through the system to exercise the mechanism and remove stagnant fluid from the internals.

Is there any correlation to the ABS failing in bikes, and not doing routine brake fluid changes and frequent use of the ABS pump while riding? I have changed out the fluid yearly and often grab a bunch of brake to check ABS function. So far, so good.

Sounds to me like another Gen I ABS pump failure.

+Windshield auto retract failure,+CCT failure,+Ignition switch failure,+Sticky dry clutch plates failure, because a bad design of the clutch housing,+Ticking problem because a bad valve seals design or and not strong valve metals...+What other i don't know...Not good news and not acceptable problems from this big name..!!

My XTZ 750 Super Tenere 1990 model has never a one like that problem,or any other problem for 23 years that i have the bike!!I have do 180.000 miles without any problem until now!!

Neither has my 05 ever experienced any of these problems, but in the forum, we can colletively see these rare problems come up individually, and they may appear common. I proactively changed the CCT, but all FJR motors have an interference design which makes valve timing issues catastrophic if they occur. Yamaha replaced ignitions switches, and repaired the relatively few tickers that cropped up. I don't see this as an unreliable or defective bike at all.

My '07 has had none of the mentioned problems, even though some of them are unique to GenI bikes. No spider issues, ignition switch issues, altitude sickness or stiff throttle. I have; however, done all my recalls.

Maybe I shouldn't jinx myself.

No,it is not an unreliable and defective bike, but has some serious issues and should not be happening this..

I changed also the CCT because the timing chain started to become noisy, the windshield auto retract stopped working many years now, also i had a problem with the TPS,changed for free from the dealer. Also i have a dry clutch plate issue, did many times an oil bath to the plates but after some miles the problem become again and again because the problem is the design of the clutch housing,it don't leave too much oil to pass in the plates.I have never an ignition switch problem,an ABS pump failure,a ticker problem,or a broken subframe...

No one, besides the Owosso Jackass, wants to admit it, but the FJR, as a platform, IS a POS. Just not much of an accepted possibility in an FJR forum.

I did annual brake fluid changes. I often activated the rear ABS, intentionally, but the front only very infrequently. That's how I discovered the rear wasn't working. My hydraulic unit failed at about 25K miles, and it was the rear circuit that failed. In my case, I wonder if the salt air and humidity in South Florida are the culprits, but who knows, maybe it was BECAUSE I intentionally activated the rear a lot and wore out the spools? My bike is kept covered outside under a shelter since I have no garage. SFla is hard on bikes kept outdoors not far from the ocean.

Salt air should not affect the ABS pump internally, and I have a good bit more mileage than you with similar maintenance, but indoor storage. Luck of the draw, or maybe I've been saved by the cold.

Resolved. The new rear sensor came in today, I popped it in and everything seems to be working as it should. Malfunction light is now normal, I cleared the error signal, and am ready for the next ABS issue whatever it will be. Now if only Ionbeam would tell me what happened with the dead hydraulic unit I sent him...
