I'm looking for an 05 ABS service manual. But I'm not sure if other service manuals would work just as well. I wouldn't mind simply using a disk with my computer, but am not sure if I'd be getting the exact same information. Need some advice here, and need to buy something soon.

The only legitimate manual is the Yamaha paper manual. There are no Chilton or Haynes type manuals for the FJR. All CD and PDF manuals are illegal copies.

You will need the main service manual as well as the supplemental ABS manual P/N 5JW-28197-11. A lot of things like the correct wheel drawings and full electrical schematic are in the supplemental manual.

Thank you. Recently I missed out on an 04 manual, but I wonder: will the 04 manual suffice for my needs or were there significant changes that would require me to get the 05 manual?

Out side of paint codes there are no differences between '04 and '05 manuals. There is a huge amount of information in the supplemental ABS manual.

For your '05, you could use the '03 (but you should also get the ABS supplemental manual, a separate volume in '03), in '04 the ABS section is inclusive to the manual.

My '04 shop manual was two books, the main service manual and a supplemental ABS manual. Maybe they merged together during the printing run in '04, Mr House will need to confirm that the manual he buys includes the ABS system.

Absoluteley correct; through some ordering glitch I had both sets (the two volume and the inclusive one volume). I assumed that the two volume was the '03 version and the one volume was the '04 version(maybe they even changed printing at a midpoint sometime). In any event make sure you get the supplement if you have the ABS model (in the single version unit it begins on page 58).

Checked with the local Yammie dealer today. They didn't say anything about a supplement, but it was listed as an 05 ABS manual. I'm guessing that it includes whatever supplimental material needed for that price!!! (107 with tax). Ouch. Still waiting to hear something from someone who'd be willing to sell one.

I wouldn't mind doing that at all. The things I want to do to the bike need to be taken care of as soon as possible. I'm hoping that sooner or later I'll be able to buy one on the forum. But for now, your solution sounds perfect. I can't believe my good fortune. Thank you for responding to my plea. I do have one question, though. Is the regular shop manual separate from the supplimental manual, that is, are they two different things? Could you give me your address so I can send you some money?
Thanks

The final post:

Looks like I'm all set and won't be needing any service manuals. I've got the information I need, and what I don't know, I can find out easy enough with just an email to any of my fellow FJR forum members. I certainly do appreciate how helpful the members of this forum have been to me.
