I missed this post as I haven't been here in a couple of days. I just went through this same thing on my bike. the o-ring had hardened and any movement caused it to seep fuel. My o-ring had hardened to the point that the sides of it had taken on the shape of the space it was in (square). I got a couple of o-rings from a kit that believe it or not was at harbor freight.
When you re-assemble dont make the same mistake I did. The high pressure line follows up into the pump half of the whole unit. fish out the o-ring from that and the plastic follower behind it. Put them on the bottom half and then slide the 2 back together. I took some pics but have been too lazy to post them (don't have a posting site)...

Oh and just an FYI, I used a dental pick to pull apart the 'fingers' that hold that fitting in. Seemed to work quite well.
