In case you're wondering...

I captured this image on my Zumo last month a few miles south of Marfa, Texas. My Concours was still pulling hard when I pulled the plug

But I just thought my bull was bad..............until.............my buddy from Houston on his Busa started walking away from me at about 155.

IronButtCody,

Looks like you did a great job maximizing your C14's HP!! Very impressive setup you got there!! I am very satisfied with my FJR's HP/TQ output. I rang up some very good numbers on a very low reading dyno... Considering... I don't even have a PWC or custom map, my cats are still intact, 02 sensor is still in place, and only have slip ons!! That air box had a lot of HP to be had!! My point is you can make most +liter bikes HP/TQ monsters with the right know how, mods, and right amount of money regardless to the brand name. Gramps here knows a local tuner (here in MN) that has been working on the FJR1300 motors for years... Does a custom 399hp turbo kit (he even puts in Yamaha sleds) and a chain drive conversion kit. But why bother.. Buy a Busa or ZX14 if you wanna do that!!

I would love to run with your C14 sometime. I bet our bikes would be very close competitors. Dyno's are kind of funny how they can read soo different!! I read on the Two Brothers website how they claim to be getting 142hp on their dyno with C14 and their slip-on. I can tell you that my buddy with his C14 isn't getting 142hp at the tire with his 2bro's(not at least that much on the dyno I use at the Boarhouse). Based on how our bikes run out against each other... The 2Bro's dynometer reads very high!! It is very obvious that their 142 isn't very close to the Boarhouse's 138.

Though, his C14 gets up and moves and is very fast and is a very nice bike too!! My buddy has considered pulling his flies and do the PWC and custom map too.. BUT, he is already pretty disappointed with his lack of fuel range and poor MPG and has said he doesn't want to risk his 3 year warranty. Besides... We both moved away from our Rockets(Zx10's, ZX12's ect, ect..) to the sport tourers for many reasons. Trying to slow down... taking trips on them... better mpg...were just a couple of them.

Ride Safe Cody,

WW

Indeed. Dyno's are all different. I put this thing on a "car dyno" and it registered 144 and 96 ft-lbs. But a car dyno has much more mass with two (2) drum for the rear wheels and this must affect the readings. I've read where TBR uses a Superflow.

All these mods didn't affect my mileage too bad. In stock form....if I rode in a sane fashion (75 mph on the highway) I had gotten as high as 47.5 true mpg. That means I calculated it. But normally it would get in the low 40's at that speed. In the wake of these mods the best I've see at sane speeds is 44-45. Noramlly I get 39 to 40 at 75 mph.

Anyhow I am pleased to finally see evidence of an FJR making these kind of numbers from simple mods. I bet if you removed those stinkin' CATS and added a PC3 you'd break 140 easily. I have a friend that is about to buy a a new ST. He's really wanted an FJR. But was leaning to the C14 simply for the superior "fire power". When I pointed him to this thread he maybe leaning back toward the YamaHammer. :coolsmiley:

It's all good. He can't go wrong with either mahine.

Ride safe....maybe I'll see ya out there someday.

I think that IBC is fishin' for some FJR's :tease: Hey Cody, aren't you lost???

Hehehe...no not really. I was searching for some hard data on FJR mods for a buddy. It appears WW has made some significant gains with his...more than I've ever seen on an FJR.

I was just giving him a hard time when I posted my Dyno run...(wink).

Stay safe.

BTW WW...I love the paint job on yours. That is absolutely slick! Another thing I don't like about this Concours. When you ride a C14 rally and pull up at a station people think your part of a bike cult or something.

IronbuttCody,

Hey guy, I appreciate your input here regardless to what brand your riding. Thanks for the nice comments on my ride. I think it is great that some of us(me, you and others) can appreciate a nice sport tourer no matter the brand. I like the C14 also.. I almost bought one last year, before I moved on my FJR. It just came down to personal preference and I liked the look of the FJR a bit more and the less valve maintenance costs. However, if I did not have a FJR I would have the C14. Both bikes are AWESOME!! If you check below in my signature line, I have owned as many Kawasaki's as I have owned Yamaha's.

Take care.. What part of the Country you in? Me and my buddy Motor659 and some other folks are heading out to Yellowstone this Sept for a run.. Who knows.. Maybe we could get a chance to ride??

Don't those duals look much better than that hideous SCUD MISSILE from the factory?
;) :D
Absofrickenlutely. I'll jump out there and say I think the duals looks sweet on that bike. How do they look with the bags off?

Admittedly I looked at a C14 at one of my local shops when they arrived out of mere curiosity. Had no intention of dumping the feej but it never hurts to look. I did get to play around on it, take the bags off...sit on it and all that jazz.

I liked it well enough. Seating position was a bit to high for my short little legs. Other than that it seemed a pretty decent bike for their (kaw) first outing. I would hazard a guess that just like the FJR, their next gen will be even better.

While I haven't seen anyone with one yet on the roads in my area (just south of Cincinnati) I do ride occasionally with a couple guys who have a ZX14 and an Blackbird respectively and we've traded numerous times. Each one does it's own thing quite well and I enjoy riding then for varying reasons just as I do my feej.

If you're ever in the area I'd love to stare at your taillight for the day. :)

Surely you jest. The Fudger can hold it's own quiet well with a Concours...especially in the twisties with a skilled pilot. On a straight road...maybe not. But how many times you gonna spin it up to 150 in your life? I'm not a great rider...but I had trouble shaking a guy on a 25 year old XS11 last week on the Pig Trail. Pilot skill is a BIG part of the equation.

Anywho here's what the duals look like with panniers off.

BTW, everyone..and Cody,

My friend on his C14 (motor659 on your forum Cody a.ka. Flying Kaw) is getting rid of his fly action on his C14 (he is hoping to get enough mid range gains to keep up with my FJR when we do gear for gear roll-ons..I am sure he would like to be passing me too!!!). He has the Two brothers pipe, and is gonna have his bike sniffed ( he added a 02 bung where Kawi designed a spot for this sensor on the Euro models) and road tuned with the techlusion tuner (via me and a handy dandy wideband 02 portable AFR reader). Gramps and I will post back what kind of performance gains he gets/shows against my tuned up FJR...Maybe another video?? Just to keep APPLES to APPLES... I too am adding the techlusion tuner to my itty bitty Feejer and will be custom tuning mine the same way as we do his. No bench racing here Cody.. Just real road results! Ask Motor659 on your forum how slow a similarly modded Feejer is compared to a modded C14 before you care to JEST! Not just in the corners either..

Cody check this link of the video that Gramps rolled (his bike was pretty much stock, at the time, and he couldn't keep up with our modded bikes that well..he is modded up now) of my itty bitty Feejer and Motor659's C14 on some nice twisties and straights over 150+...Look closely. Does it look like the FJR cannot hold its own in the straights??

Cody, No need to jest here, unless you want to keep doing that! Hahahahaha!!

WW

BTW... Your C14 looks very nice with the Duals!!

Webby I get the definite impression you suffer from an acute case of TAS (tiny appendage syndrome). Why in the hell would I waste precious fuel showing some poser on a fudger what the rest of the world already knows.

If you want the fastest Super Sport Touring bike quit trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. :drag: Just go buy a Concours14. :p hehehehehe

Cody,

Now this is 2 Funny!!

Lets keep it real, as far as appendage syndromes go... Who is the one posting pics of their "superior sport tourer" on the "other" brand sport touring forum??

I admit the need for speed is a hard thing to shake!! I hope we have a chance to get together this Fall around Yellowstone so I (all here to see as well, as we will have on board tapes a rolling) can see if your bike runs out better than Motor659's C14. Hahahahaha!! That there youtube can be a real ***** if your into benchracing!!!

HAhahahahahaha

Um, well, um, I took my '02 Interceptor up to an indicated 150 mph on a hot Sunday afternoon on the road between Alamagordo and Las Cruces, NM. Just to see what she'll do.

Now I have an'08 FJR with 650 miles on it. I swore I'd never 'see what she'll do again.' But, when I take her out of the shop at 4000 miles running synthetic, I'll probably see what she'll do.

FattyMoon,

Don't ask me how I know this BUT.... A stock GenII FJR with the bags off and the stock windshield down will do over 155mph (true speed on a gps) if you have a long *** road out in the middle of Michigian! Also...At this speed you are no where near the redline in 5th gear.. The Gen II is geared for over 170mph, if you make enough power to redline top gear. Even with all my hp/tq mods I doubt I will be able to redline 5th (if I was stupid enough to mess with that kind of Tomfoolery  ).

Cody,

Just ribbing you back!! I suspect you might be playing with some blue bottles, red letters?? Hahahahaha!! Kool! There is a guy here that has done the NOS... I think he has had pretty good luck with it (soo far..)

Ride safe!

One huge drawback to "hitting the bottle". It is not conducive to engine longevity. So I doubt I would seriously go through with that mod. I've got 12,000 miles on this beast and the more I ride it the more I like it. I can see my self "married" to this one for a long time. ^_^

Let me know when you head that way. I'll have a laptop on the trip so e-mail me and maybe we can detour through Yellowstone.

Oh BTW...be sure and take a tow rope so someone can pull you into the nearest Yamawhore dealer.

Now Cody you surprise me.. I can't figure out why you'd be rolling on a Kawi if your concerned about longevity and reliability!!! Hahahahaha.. Joking.. I have owned my share of Kawi's and have had no problems with them. Them stealerships can really SUCK no matter the brand!! I hear you about the idea of NOS being a little scary for the long term. Tuned correctly they can be pretty reliable... Though, a good friend of mine who does a lot of custom turbo and NOS application tuning has said this to me," A minute on the bottle is the equivalent to 1000 miles on the motor/drive train."

True that...I know a guy on the ZRX website that has turbo'd his. Rebuilt the motr 3 times in about 12,000 miles. Gawd it was baddddd when it was running though. I think it was making about 230 at the rear wheel. But after the third time he went back to natural aspiration.

Anywho...stay in touch...may see in the fall at Jackson.

Addressing the first post and roll ons.... rider ability to drag race a bike properly can play a big part in these kinds of contests and may of been a factor in your results. I've drag raced cars and bikes quite a bit and consider myself pretty proficient at it, and when I did roll on's with my buddy on his C14 we had just the oppisite results. He pulled me every-time, and I had no bags Vs he having bags.

I'm pretty sure the C14 can out pull the FJR. However, he complains about lack of confidence in his bike in the corners, and I'm sure that is where the FJR excels.

Inlaw...

When referring to roll on thats what it means... No skill... just hitting the throttle while rolling together to see how the bikes compare. No road skills have been referenced here. We ain't talking about stock bikes side by side either... I agree, a stock C14 comes with a hp (not tq) advantage and way better gears for acceleration. If your both stock, you should do a roll on with your friend with both of you at a similar rpm because of his gearing advantage he will almost always be at a higher rpm than you when your in the same gears. What is so awesome here is that my fairly inexpensively modded FJR can pull a modded C14 (gear for gear)!! If you want to get your C14's buddies attention tune into my how to get Great Hp/Tq by just the cost of some slip-on exhaust!!

If you own a FJR...Your Welcome. If you own a C14.. So Sorry.
