06 A's are in the states

I called my dealer this afternoon (SouthBay Motorsports in National City, CA),  and spoke with Ted.  He then contacted corporate -  and was told that the bikes were being held in wait for the sidecases.  He was told 'towards the end of the month".  And then he apologized,  he doesn't like the situation either. 

I stopped by my dealer in Maryland today. He confirmed the ~1 month slip but said that only the early waiters will be affected. In other words, March waiters might be in for some pain, but Yamaha expects to be back on track for April and beyond. YMMV.

As a waiter who was never told anything but April, I'm pleased. Dealer said, "we told you April; it will be April. It may be April 1, and it may be April 30, but it will be April". So, definitely by August, I think.

Which MD dealership- Ellicott City??? I'm wondering who's gonna have ANY experience maintaining these bikes once mine arrives. I'm doing a fly/buy/ride out of Ohio~ Would be interested in your experience with a local dealer though- I'm just outside Annapolis.

Come to think of it, when I picked up my '05 in Sept. '04, it was delivered on time as promised, with both bags and bag liners. Maybe I caught a break and never realized it.

I was taking all of this with a grain of salt but I talked with a Yammi dealer today to find you guys are right on.

The bikes are ready and are indeed being held up because of the sidecases. The cases are not being released until all bikes are delivered in Europe. Then the good ol' USofA customers get the leftovers. Whenever the sidecases show up the bikes will be delivered within days. Of course, this will create a log-jam at many dealers to assemble their bikes and without much warning. This dealer said Yammi will not commit to any date of delivery (bikes or sidecases).

It certainly isn't a very good way to do business. As far as the USA is concerned, we customers know where we stand with Yamaha......DEAD LAST!!!!! sigh....

most dealers today in the bay area where labor is extremely high, $108 per hour at a Honda, Kawasaki, Harley dealer in Fremont, have their bike brought in a transporter already assembled. No crates to dispose of, no high priced labor putting bike together.

Too bad America doesn't make a super sport tourer that could eliminate all this crud of PDP, customs, leftover, missing parts, ect.... I think were missing the boat literally. Then they would be last in line for bikes and parts and doing all the waiting. I've stood all's I can stands, and I can't stands no more. :angry:

Ain't a big enough market for 'sports tourers'. Forget who I was talking to this weekend, but if this segment sells more than 10,000 units per year in the States, that would be a good year. Considering that there are a number of players (FJR, ST, RT, GT, Connie, VFR, Sprint, etc.), I really can't blame Yammi for doing the PDP.

Plus, it's fun to watch all you waiters wanking. We should cal the Waaa-mbulance...

Prior to the introduction of the FJR, the annual US market for the S-T genre was reported to be about 3,000 units a year with BMW selling most of those. It's still not a big market relative to other styles of bikes.

Now fellas, be nice to the waiters. We have some very sensitive types here who can't afford the therapist that having fun with them might require. We really need more empathy with our waiting friends. Why, it makes me just want to weep.

There is a good American motor, bike combination out there waiting to happen, I don't understand why it hasn't happened already.

Take the motor in the Vrod and put it in the Buell. Get rid of that hunk of iron in the Buell now and put the Vrod in it. The Buell bikes handle well and the Vrod motor is a very good motor. It pretty much has nothing in common with the air cooled Harley motors except that its a V twin. Buell has shown they have some tricks up their sleeves with designing the Ulysses this year.

I think they could have a potent combination on their hands, but I doubt it will happen. Seems people are stuck on having a "real" Harley motor in the Buell, for reasons I can't comprehend.

I had a V-Rod and can confirm that it is a great street engine. Smooth, torquey, responsive with a smooth on/off throttle transition. The problem is that the VRSC engine unit weighs too much for a sportbike like a Buell.

Aw come on Rad, I can take it. I'm not that thin skin. My therapist said as long as I take my meds, I'll be ok. I just need a few more treatments until the honkin FJR gets here.
