Uh Oh! I saw one of these today parked in the parking lot of the Fast teller at my bank.

The 2006 Ducati Classic 1000 looked remarkedly like my Dog!

= Woof, Woof!
Brutal! :dribble:

I am reading your replies. Keep em' coming.I may take it out for a test ride.
Bugnatr, also have Ducati's on the brain. Here's an informative website: https://www.ducatisuite.com/home.html Can I count on you to check out some NorCal Ducks?

https://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/19...TI-ST4-96200624 This 1999 Duc ST4 for under $5K and under 12K miles gives me a blue-veined diamond cutter Woodie!
Looks good to me, go ahead and buy it ;) I'm closer to Tahoe and would be glad to check out any Duc close to me.

Doubt I'll get a Ducati soon as one of my employees blew out his knee so I get to do both of our jobs, looks like bike hunting will be put on hold for a while. I am planing on riding to SW Fog so perhaps we can have a few cold ones and make L Twin sounds until we get one. Or better yet bring the ST4, would love to ride it.

Bugnatr, I will hold off pulling the Ducati trigger until I have an opportunity to talk more with our resident Ducati experts on our FJR Forum: Niehart and FJRBluesman.

I will be riding with Bluesy on March 27 and I will be rooming with Niehart at WCRR; unless I see Dave before then, you just never know when Mr. Black will show up!

Just want to pick guys brains who've been long time Duc owners, to hear reports of any maintenance problems and reliability issues; straight from the horses arses!

If you feel the need for a Duc, then go for it! If you let the shop do "by the book" maint., it can be very expensive. Quatro's even more. Some may tell you that it isn't that bad, but those people have the extra income to spend. Contact your local Duc dealer and ask what a service costs. Plenty of used Ducs on Craigslist. Sold my '93 900SSsp for a '97 TL1000s so I could do some track days. Only issue mine had was valve-guides which were covered by the factory.

Still search CL for SP's. Back in the '90's, Duc's were kinda rare....now there a dime a dozen. Learn how to adjust valves, change belts and sync tb's and you'll save some $$.

BTW, nothing sounds better than a free-breathing desmodue with carbon cans! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I am not sure how big of a guy you are. I currently own an SV650, it's a good bike, but trying to keep on the freeway is a PITA. Anything over about 75 is a work out for the bike. I would look at a SV 1000 they are only like 110HP. Speaking of Ducati s4rs there was one for sale about 5 minutes from my place. Man I wanted this bike so damn bad... But alas, no way I could come up with the money quick enough.

One of the things not mentioned so far about Ducs is they don't like to go slow. Slow, as in legal speeds. Even my '03 SS750 didn't like to cruise at anything under 90 mph. That doesn't always make for nice encounters with the boys with flashing lights. Adding that most Ducs come in 'look at me' colors doesn't help either.

If you want one and have the cash to spend, go for it. They are fun, unique bikes that handle very well. You can spend more money than Paris Hilton pimping one out if you want to, (Pie boy probably knows all about this), but you don't have to do that. If you want to do the wrenching yourself the maintenance costs aren't really a factor. OTOH, if you take it to the dealer as often as they want you to, you can have a second mortgage payment, just signed over to the Duc dealer.

Dollar per mile, it's not really worth it, IMHO. You'll never ride the Duc very far, or for very long at any one time. Its fun, it's a cool bike and very visceral, as well as visually appealing, but do you want to ride or have rolling art to talk about when you're stopped? :D Do what makes your pants feel tight. which might mean having another slice of pie.
