While not a manufacturing expert, sales forecsting, equipment/plant capacity (planning), outsourced vendor parts, 'just in time inventory, quality control, spare parts inventory, personnel, etc. all have a major role in how many of anything is made. Excesses over and above the 'sales forecast' can indeed wreak havoc on forecasted profit margins e.g. plant/personnel overtime, etc.

C'mon folks, be realistic!

Realistic? They sell more FJRs in Europe and Australia than they do in the Yoo-knighted States, and the Yerpeans and Ozzies don't have the PDP and they get color choice. I don't think there are differences except those bikes destined for the Peoplez Republik of Kalifornia (because of the smog/charcoal cannisters).

Uhhhh...metric vs english unit gauge faces, flash to pass switch on the left housing, and the immobiliser off the top of my head.

Care to share with us your numbers? Or are you just guessing? As far as I know, nobody really knows how many are sold in each country, including our own.

 My local dealer can't keep "any" Yamaha's on the floor. No matter what the model. Go figure....Painman. :bleh: Waiting and waiting and waiting......

I remember someone posting numbers, USA was about 30% IIRC. Don't remember exact numbers.

Either way, I got my order in yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive.

Now, who do I talk to about those last few remaining Doritos? :D

When MM2 and I spoke with the Rep at the Alice release last month, he stated just over 4000 05's sold in the US. I asked about overseas quantity and the reply was " twice the US sales figures but I don't have the exact number ".

There were about 1800 US 2003 models sold and about 2400 04's. ( info from the Micapeak site)

My order was placed yesterday for a new FJR so I guess they aren't sold out yet, thank goodness.

Skooter, you're right about the instrumentation. But I'm thinking with the "changes" for '06, these have been ordered in quantity figuring on a 3 or 4 year model/style cycle.

I just find it difficult to imagine that Yamaha would not sell more bikes because they didn't order enough 'Murkin speedometers or ignition switches. (Tongue planted firmly in cheek!)

IIRC, Canadians get the metric speedo/odo units, just not the flash-to-pass trigger. But I don't know where their numbers would fall in the Euro/Norte 'Murkin sales comparison, but Yamaha Canada has a PDP program like Cypress, so the sales figures might be included, N.A.:the rest of the globe.
