When I first got the bike, noticed that the little plastic piece that inserts into the lock on the glovebox seemed a little fragile/flimsy. Then, sure enough, it broke. In the meantime, used "super lock" velcro from Radio Shack (great stuff) just to get by with until getting it into the dealer. Now the bike's in getting the recall done for the shift actuator and the dealer ordered the (faster) blue glove box by mistake. Silver's are on back order and will have to wait.

Just wondering if any other 06' owners had this occur. IMHO, the glove box latch is a pretty weak design. That plastic "hanging chad" is kind of in the way of objects as they're put in and out of the box.

Even though it doesn't have the best security lid I used mine all the time , well, until about the beginning of this season. I took mine apart and found out just what you found... cheap plastic. I ordered a new one(whole box assembly) but I haven't gotten around to installing it... maybe this winter.

I think you already figured out how to fix it. Forget the latch and just keep using the velcro. It won't stop a thief, and with the velcro, you don't need all that 'in neutral/ignition on' nonsense.

That piece of plastic is about 3/4" square and 1/16" thick and once it breaks off, the dealer has to order an entire glove box to replace. It's not very motorcycle-glove friendly. I bet it will be re-thought for 08's.

Mine did the same thing. I figured it must of happened while reaching to the bottom of the compartment with my gloves on and pushed the tab over. I wasn't about to buy a new box or let the dealer have it for who knows how long to see if it would be warrantied.

I pulled it completely off, scuffed and cleaned the area. Then, applied what is basically quick set JB weld, just enough to hold it where I wanted it, then applied a second application. It is much stronger than it was originally and has held up for 10k and everyday use.

If anyone else reads this in a search, mine busted too from putting too much stuff in it, and forcing it closed too many times. plastic parts broke. I'm just going to use velcro or something also, not worth a whole 'nother box.

Good on you calson for actually doing a search!!!! Praise the new guy!!!! And welcome to the forum!
