My first question is easy:

Does anyone know of or have used a custom seat maker for the FJR in the southeast? I just don't see going to Cali for the right fit.

#2:

On my ride back from EOM I put the seat in the high position (I usually ride in the low position) at the suggestion of Renegade for my frame size. The height in itself did not really make a diff in overall comfort to me, but I did notice something peculiar after changing seat height. In the higher position the seat was warm on my bum. I have never noticed this in the low. I change seat position from low to high at around 300 miles in- on a 500 mile trip back from EOM (mid 80 deg day). I lowered it back down on my next gas stop and the heat went away, but I was almost home then with a cooler part of the day.

I chalked it up to a sore tush at the time from around 2,000 miles in 4 days.

I'm not talking fry some egg heat, more like Icy/hot after a workout.

Thoughts? sore ass or larger aircavity under the seat trapping warm air?

I'm thinking it was your sore bum :) I normally have the seat up high and have been playing back and forth.

It's currently in the low position trying to get used to the lesser leg room should I get a Corbin.

I haven't noticed the warming sensation you speak of.

Fencer,

That’s covering a lot of ground. Sounds like ya’ll had a heck of a ride. :bike:

Wish I did know someone who makes custom aftermarket seats in the southeast. For me, the stock configuration of the OEM seat wasn’t getting the job done. I’m not taking a jab at the maker by saying that. I mean, lets be realistic, think of how difficult it must be to make a seat that would be comfortable for all possible buyers.

IMO having my A$$ planted on the OEM vinyl seat of for2, 000 miles, in four days, with temps above 80 degrees F, would qualify as an A$$ burner :fire: ! Which, for me, is worse than a “warm bum”. Guess I need to toughen up. :rambo:

I custom sculpted my OEM seat to fit me. However, I didn’t have it recovered. I’m still using the stock vinyl. Which, I don’t particularly care for. That vinyl doesn’t seem breath—at all! LOL.

I’m thinking about getting a Russell with the velour insert this winter  , if I decide to keep the bike.

By the way, enjoyed the video you put on photobucket. :specool: That’s serious riding. Look forward to watching those ya’ll posted on youtube but, I’ve been having trouble downloading from youtube, its data “pours like cold molasses”.

Copy that. Thanks.

Just had Rich's in Seattle make a custom seat for my '06. What a difference it made. Used some trick looking silver leather with black leather trim and dark blue top stitch. Beautiful and comfortable. $675

I noticed the same thing Fencer and thought it was just my candy ass butt too...

Safety tip:

Soak your socks in kerosene.

...Keeps the ants from crawling up your legs and eating that candy ass.

I have had the stock seat on my FJR for the first 4500 miles. The first 3500 happened in the first ten days of owning the bike and I was very happy with the ride of the stock seat. I am 6'4" and close to 300 lbs and have never enjoyed a stock saddle fo ra long trip until now. I may do something in the future, I sat on another FJR with high and back Corbin and it felt real nice.... I dunno....

I've read the comments about other vendors, don't know them yet I'll plug Corbin based on my experience only. I bought a new Suzuki Bandit 1200S in July 1998. Couldn't take the stock seat and got a Gunfighter seat with waffle cover pattern two weeks later. Had it until I sold the bike in January 2006 with 34,280 miles on it. Liked the seat (and the bike!) the entire time through local California riding, 10 Western states and two Canadian provinces. This March I bought a new 2006 FZ-1. Too cramped, took the bike to Corbin in Hollister as test mule for new seat. They made a smooth seat and Smuggler. Worked great but bike still too cramped (I'm 6'2", 190#). Sold it with 2060 miles on it to a co-worker on July 28 and bought a new 2006 FJR the same day. :yahoo: Have about 1400 miles on feej with new Corbin seat and Smuggler last 200 miles. I like the seat with the enhanced front section that goes up into tank section - like Yam should have thought of that. Out of last ten bikes I've owned, I've changed the seat on five. My two pesos.
