I went on a ride today, nice little run, but twice today as I came to a red light. "IT" would not downshift. I pulled in the clutch, pressed the shifter, the gear indicator went blank, But I could not down shift from 5. The gear was stuck between 4 & 5, Then I could not go back up to 5. Finally before the light changed, I got it to shift. then it happened again at the next light. But no more probs with another hour of riding and shifting.

I have less than 400 miles on the bike

Ideas?

Yes the clutch was all the way in

I've seen this happen from time to time on various bikes, If the tranny isn't spinning you can get stuck between gears when down shifting, let the clutch out a little and it will pop into gear, you can usually shift it then.

Since the transmission isn't fully "worn-in", make sure you are downshifting while the bike is still in motion (IOW, don't come to a stop and then try to downshift through the gearbox while the bike is stopped).

Fencer,

I had the same problem for the first couple hundred miles but it eventually stopped happening and now shifts fairly smoothly.....nothing like my VFR but fairly smoothly.

I forgot to mention I was in motion trying to downshift before I came to a complete stop.

Had a similar problem from neutral to 1 at light (was hot).

(don't want to hear I shouldn't have been sitting in neutral.)

Embarassing. Brand new, less than 300 miles on it yet.

Rev'd it a couple of times and kicked it down.

Funny, I remember my '73 Yammie would do the same thing once and a while.

This may not be your problem but, some owners of earlier model FJRs had this happen to them.

The problem was that they did not let the foot shifter come all the way up after downshifting.

After downshifting, they held the shifter down an inch without even knowing it.

You must ensure after a downshift that the shifter is allowed to travel all the way up again.

Or your bike just has an attitude and after some more miles it will be fine.

My 05 did that occasionally.

My Moto Guzzi LeMans did it more often.

Just let the clutch out and it'll pop back into gear.

Annoying, but.........

Actually, now that I've thought about this, it seems that Pegscraper had a shifting fork replaced. I'd mention it to my dealer and get it in the computer in case the problem persists. At least it could be fixed under warranty.

Does the shifter more freely when you are trying to shift? if so then I agree with may not be letting it reset.

Happens to me a few times feels like missing a shift and having to re do, however if i mis read you post.

sorry :assassin:
