I have ridden the 04' and 05' FJR's and they are great bikes. But, the question is do I buy an 06' considering all the ticking problems this bike has??

Comments would be appreciated.

Hell no! God forbid you get a ticker!

For that matter...............

Never again fly in a plane..................it might crash.

Never again hop in the sack with a woman....................she might have some "issues".

Never again drive your cage....................you could crash or it could break down.

Never again step outside your house................who knows what could happen.

Getting my point?

You could be diagnosed with cancer tomorrow. Is that possibility going to keep you from enjoying life?

Get the FJR, ride the **** out of it. If it ticks, get it fixed.

Simple, eh?

Oh, and it won't tick...think positive.

People still take Tylenol.

People still buy Firestone tires.

People still travel.

People still eat beef.

People still drink coffee from McD's.

Scooter's right. Buy the damn thing. Ride it without worry. It'll be fine. And by some strange stroke of bad luck, it's NOT alright...they'll fix it.

Ride like the wind dude!

1) Uh oh! If you're worried about the '06s, please go to number 2.

2) Uh oh! You must be worried about the '07s; please go to number 3.

3) Uh oh! You must be worried about the '08s; please go to number 4.

4) Uh oh! You must be worried about the '09s; please go to number 5.

5) Uh oh! You must be worried about the '10s; please go to number 6.

TOO LATE. THE FJR HAS NOW BEEN DISCONTINUED!! I'll sell you my classic '05 for $20,000!! :D

You forgot don't stay home, most accidents happen at home! :p

I think you may have gotten a more positive response if you had asked something like 'what's the situation with ticking and the '06 FJR' instead of 'should I buy/not buy'. Remember this is a family that is brought together by the FJR.

It is interesting that the responses so far have all come from owners who do not have/had tickers, but I could be wrong. ;)

It all comes down to what you are prepared to deal with if/when it happens to your own pride and joy. :)

Re: tick fix - Other than a very few select dealers in the US(maybe only 1 that gets mentioned here), who can get you in and out in 2-3 weeks, you will probably be facing up to 6 weeks or more of down time. Then you have to decide to keep it or sell. If you decide to keep, can you put it out of your mind that it 'may/may not' come back at some unknown point in time and just enjoy the bike.

Only you can decide where to play with your $$$$.

My dad wouldn't wear a seat belt when traveling in his car.

He said he wanted to be able to get out quickly if it ever went under water or caught on fire.

Sounds like he would have been very happy on an FJR, huh?.

No seat belts!

I'm saving up for an 07 ...faster, bluer. :bleh:

The tick issue has probably been fixed permenantly in the '06's. They have revised guides and seals.
Not necessarily. While encouraging, we have been down this road before. A few years ago when they issued the TSB about incompatible metals between valves and guides and came out with a new valve - everyone thought it was fixed.

Didn't happen.

So call me a cautious skeptic.

Hi, My name is Randy and I had a ticker.

The possibility of the '06s ticking has absolutely nothing to do with my decision to hold off.

Benefits of having a ticker:

1) saved a little room in the garage for about 3 weeks

2) pushed my 16,000 mile valve adjustment out to 26,000 miles

3) had them replace the plugs so I didn't have to get my hands dirty

4) hand cut valve seats were probably better that what they were from the factory

I still love my bike and it was nothing more than a temporary inconvenience. In fact, I wouldn't mind if it started ticking again - it's about time for new plugs :D

And as long as we are worrying, let's worry about the BMW final drives, the ST1300 speed wobble and heat issues, the Concours' old style & suspension....pork belly futures, and...............

There is no answer that can calm your fears. Is it 100% guaranteed to not tick? Probably not. the real question would be the one Skyway brought up, "Are you prepared to deal with it?" If you are, then you should by an FJR and enjoy riding the machine we all love. If not, purchase the bike that makes your heart go pitty-pat , and let's go riding.

Hey, BlueStreak, Join the "Arrow Pickers Club." I'm still removing arrows from my butt resulting from my complaint about the whining turbine sound in my blue buddies engine.

@TheBlueStreak, pick any bike on the market today you would like to purchase, and I will give you a reason to worry about something that could go wrong with it. :D

Thanks for all the comments, serious and sarcastic...lol

I have a B12S now that I love but the FJR offers things the B12S doesn't have, i.e. ABS, saft drive, larger fairing, bags, FI, etc..

I have a GL1800 with a cracked frame so I didn't want to send hard earned cash and have to deal with another recall bike.

I was really just wondering if anyone knew if the 06' was going to have changes that Yamaha said would "fix" the problem as was mentioned by T120TT.

Of course, noone really knows what will happen until some miles get on the 06's.

As Skyway said, it depends on what I want to deal with?? Something to think about over the long winter months.................
