Last Saturday (6/28) I ordered a trunk and trunk mounting kit [P/N ABA-2D261-30-10, Rear Trunk Attachment Kit ('06~'08)

Required for Touring Trunk attachment on '06~'08 FJR1300 models] for my '07 FJR. Trunk came in a couple of days but they say the mounting kit is back ordered and won't be available till August 27th! What the hell?

I'm in Minnesota and would like to pick one up ASAP as I was planning on a trip next week. Otherwise I will mail order one if any dealer or private party has one.

I'm in the same boat, though my dealer didn't tell me friggin' Aug 27th! That'll hose my road trip plans too.

Go to Midwest Cycle Supply in Minneapolis and see if they have a Givi V46 trunk and mount on hand. I was thinking of a Yamaha trunk but am happy that I bought the Givi instead. I also got the backrest pad for my wife.

Exactly what I was thinking about doing. Right now I am on a trip and I borrowed a Yamaha trunk and mounting kit from a buddy's 2005 FJR. All I had to do was make some spacers and I was able to bolt his mounting plate right up to my 07's tailpiece. I'm not sure if my new trunk would have fit the Gen I mounting plate, but in any case I am probably going to return my trunk and get a Givi instead, so I am happy to tour temporarily with a Cerulean Blue trunk on my Black Cherry bike.

You'd be happier with the Givi, either the 46 or the E52 that I have. Some people don't like Givi's mounting kit, as it replaces the Yamaha grab rails, but it replaces a plastic part with a steel one, and has double the "rated" load (13 lbs vs. 7!) and the Givi volume is more usable, being a bit wider than the Yamaha. I didn't expect to be happier, I wanted real "Yamaha" stuff, but I bought the Givi because it was cheaper. A lot cheaper at the time. I thought I was "settling" for what I could afford. Having seen the E52 alongside the Yamaha box, I'm really glad I went this way.

If you HAVE to keep the stock grab rail, there's a kit at premiercycleaccessories.com to mount a Givi on it. But the Givi kit is stronger.

I think (speculating, no real info) that the backorder has to do with continued problems with cracking baseplates, even after the recall supposedly fixed them.

Givi makes a mounting plate that attaches to the OEM tailpiece on '06-08 FJRs. SR357 if I remember the part number right. I looked at the PCA rack but I don't see why the Givi SR357 wouldn't work fine.

That is the plate and rail kit, does not mount to factory luggage rack and grab rail, it replaces it. SR357 for GenII bikes, SR356 for GenI.

Their site doesn't picture it well, they've got other kits installed over it. Here's mine, case removed:

People whine about how it looks, it doesn't match, the plate is ugly, waa waa waa. I like that it's steel, and I never ride without the bag - it's where I dump my gear when I park, or carry my laptop case to work, or load up with groceries on the way home for supper, etc.

+1 The SR357 replaces the factory rack. I agree with others the the factory rack is way nicer looking then the givi mount, but I have never been without the trunk since I installed it. For great looks... keep the factory rack and no trunk. For function... The givi rack and trunk works great.

Thanks for the pictures, it wasn't at all clear from the various websites that I visited what the SR357 kit consisted of. I am less concerned with the looks than the function, my last two big bikes were a GL1200 and a Concours. I had the el-cheapo JC Whitney trunk on the Concours and used it all the time. I really miss not having one, it's a lot more convenient than the side cases. I'm pretty sure once I get a trunk, whatever trunk it is, it won't be coming off.

I can't believe Yam is still having problems with the mounting plate. I bought my bike in Aug. 07, and by Oct. i got a refund on the trunk, because the mounting plates were still not available. I went with the Givi like in the above pics. I don't think it is to hard to install. Had mine put on at bike week. I went with the 46 liter trunk. I love having the extra space. quick detach to if you want to take it off.

My local dealer has three AEs all with the attachment plates pre-installed. He won't remove one to sell to me! Hmmmm...not going to get much of my business. Yeah, and Yamaha - how can you have PLENTY of top cases in stock & NOT the corresponding attachment kits - fairly pathetic. Last I checked we were in the middle of riding season...

GIVI's a fine option for some, however not an option for me as reasons already mentioned above.

[Edit: Perhaps if many dealers are pre-installing the attachment kits to drum up additional accessory sales, perhaps there's the "backorder" explanation. ]

Try giving Duane at www.premiercycleaccessories.com a call. He might have something that will work for you or be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm in the same boat. I took delivery of my FJR a couple of weekends ago. The top trunk & backrest are in the shop now but the mounting plate is still AWOL. Sure would like to have the plate before late August.

It took over 2 months to get mine from the dealer, finally they got one shipped ASAP somehow. I was going to cancel it and get a GIVI. I wish that I did in the long run because I ended up selling it here to a member anyway. Good luck.

Update:

The sales manager at the dealer I bought the bike from (and top case) is trying to help me out. From his "reliable" source, it is under a different part number noted in a tech bulletin - and those they can get. However, I mentioned the recall & that perhaps that new part # is not actually the latest and greatest. He is going to confirm & I'll post the results.

So my attachment kit came in. The dealer used this part# instead (looks like non-US, but according to my dealer, it is the same and available):

5VS-W0720-00-00

Here is a good link I came across when I Googled the p/n:

OEM Top Case Info

Ordered mine towards the middle to end of June. Was told the bracket was on backorder until 10July; it arrived at my home on 14July.

Wife likes the seating position. Says it is ergonomically correct.

I decided to get mu ECU replaced ~10 days ago. The service manager looked up the recalls on my serial number and found the ECU and the trunk mounting plate upgrade. I told him I didn't have a trunk, but I might get one someday, so it might be cool to do the upgrade. They said they'd have to order the parts and set my appointment for this morning to give the parts plenty of time to arrive. When I picked my bike up today, the service writer was surprised that I didn't have a trunk; apparently the inter-shop communications hadn't been complete. However, I know have the new trunk mount bolted on, just in case. I guess the moral of the story is that they have REPLACEMENT brackets in stock, even though accessory mounts are backordered....
