Are you stirring this up to give me fodder for my joyful waiter-baiting?

Oh, goody-goody-goody-goody-goody! :yahoo:

You forgot to warn them to check for the French detuned engines

Yes Randy. You've been around these parts for enough years to know that when somebody actually gets a bike or gets word they'll be receiving a bike......they'll be running to this forum to tell everybody.

Haven't seen any of that have you?

Shhhhhh.....you're blowing it for the newbz........

Now I need to go find that pic of the cargo ship dropping the containers into the water.

Why didn't you hear that the cargo ship, The Napoli II, en route from Japan with the '08's sunk off of Long Beach Harbor? First shipments of FJR's is a total loss. Word outta Cypress has the next lot not arriving until spring/summer. :(

Don't give the current sellers any ideas or we just might have a boat load of FJRs down in the depths. :glare:

Whew. You did such a good job playin' the first post straight I got grumpy. Lo siento.

Actually, it's good timing because I just talked with Dan Zebco up at Desert Valley Powersports and they just uncrated the first '08 they received this morning. They can't release it the customer for another two weeks, but wanted to get it assembled and ready.

Seems the black paint is different than in year's past. It has a texture to it and they say it's MUCH more resistant ot fingernail pushes. One of the mechanics pulled it up alongside his Ford pickup and realized it was the exact same texture as his his freshly Line-X'ed truck....but a bunch glossier.

Not a total loss, one container of AE models floated to shore and you can buy them on Ebay.

My dealer said he wasnt expecting them until March 08. At least he was hoping no sooner as he still has 2 07's on the floor....

I heard that if you plunk your $500 non-refundable deposit, you can get your bike sooner than the rest....mid-May instead of late-July.

Of course the bags come later...but who cares?

I heard that by request of the dealers Yamaha Japan was holding all shipments to the US until all 07s were sold and delivered.

I just spoke to someone at Desert Valley Powersports and they either do not really have an 08 yet or he is not at liberyy to disclose that he has one in his posession. Either way my dealer where I have a deposit has no further information than a December delivery date.

We used to call that "orange peel," and it was considered a defect.

Oh well - re-framing things is a great science these days.

I stopped by my dealer today. As far as they know:

1)Yamaha is trying to deliver them before Christmas but there are still some delays. They've not received notification of any in transit. It could be well into Spring. :angry2:

2) They THINK they have found the problem with the French detuned engines being mixed with the North America-bound bikes.

Still, new owners beware, you must check the engine serial number against the info on the Euro FJR boards. The repair is easy, just remove the restrictor plate under the injectors, but its "downtime" while you wait.

My dealer thinks all FJRs have the same ECU this year so they won't have to swap that out. :clapping:

He confirmed the rumor about the paint being slightly orange-peeled, but he said the Yamaha Rep assured him the paint on the production bikes is fine. :yahoo:

My dealer said they just discovered the black paint had come from a sub contractor in China and the lead content was above acceptable levels! Total Recall / Impound of all 08"s to be anounced soon
