And for my third post , lets start with a dumb question ! I have only been seriously looking for an 08 for the past month and have come across an FJ abs Demo with 4000 miles on it , asking $10,000 USD OTD . Any thoughts on the price or the fact that it is a demo ?

Only one question:

Is it still there at that price? It probably won't be in a day or so. That's a great price.

Being a demo implies it's being sold by a dealer. I'd put money down for long enough to check it hasn't been recovered or repaired, same as a car. Just make sure to get the Yamaha Extended Service (YES) plan, even if you need to pay.

The demo bike is likely fine, but Checkswrecks offers good words of wisdom.

And just to ensure your forum Chi stays in balance.... :D .... the correct nomenclature is FJR, and nowadays, there is no need for distinction between models, because we no longer have a choice in the matter: all FJRs are ABS-CBS model bikes. There is no other option to be had.

Thanks for the reply , it is in fact at a dealer and is offered with a one year factory warranty as well . :hyper:

Chatting further with them , the bike was originally broken in by a Yamaha service rep before it was taken to a number of dealers for demo rides , which were all escorted . The bike has never been in involved in any issues , and has the first service performed .

The bags have never even been even put on , it was still available three days ago . :hmmsmiley:

If your serious about buying, I'd jump on it and buy the yes extended warranty before the first year factory runs out. Sounds like a hell of a deal.

Just so you're fully informed, there is a service interval @ 4k as well. I would assume that "1st" service means the .6k service. You might inquire if they've included the 4k service in that price and if they have I'd be a hoppin' all over that price tootsweet!

The fact that they are willing to start the warranty concurrent with the sale is a good thing, and supports their story.

However, the idea of 4000 miles worth of escorted demo rides strikes me as something of a stretch. That's 200 twenty mile rides. That's a lot of demos. I've bought a few demonstrators over the years, but they've always had less than 500 miles on them when I picked them up at the end of their season.

There was a thread here recently by a guy who bought an 08 and then when he went to try to buy the YES for the bike, he was told that the bike had previously been entered into service as a rep's bike, and that it only one a month or so left on the warranty. He was also told that for some reason it wasn't possible to buy the YES program. I don't know how that thread was resolved, or even if it was resolved.

Check with the dealer to make sure you're warranty will start concurrent with the sale. Also double check to be sure they're giving you a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin, rather than someone's title. Bikes that are really being sold "as new" have MCO's rather than titles in my experience.

Good luck with the bike. The price sounds really excellent, especially since its "out the door."

Have you bought that bike yet? That sounds like a good deal to me. So long as everything is kosher and in WRITING. I wonder how a new '08 would look in my garage...................

Dude, That sounds like a good deal to me. 10 is just a bit more than I paid for my 07 with 3,000 on it. But, as previuosly suggested, some due diligence is in order. Good Luck :clapping:

Another great point ET ! I never thought of it that way . I will question them further on this and about the MCO as well . I have never purchased a "demo" anything , not even a floor model , so this may be a first for me .

I talked with the dealer yesterday and attempted to "chisel " them down even further , no luck with that :p , but they alluded to a possible break on any OEM stuff I want with the bike at purchase . So if there is an OEM must have item , what would be that be ? It seems like everything is overpriced  , I usually get after market farkles , but sometimes there is the odd OEM item that stands above the rest , is there any such OEM accessory that I should seriously consider ? :(

This is a no brainer, buy it, get the 4 year ext. from D&H for $389 and you have a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. Who cares if it was 4,000 one mile rides or one 4,000 mile test ride.

I just bought a used, farkeled 08 with 2k on it for 11k. Love it.

Well Guys , I just put in a formal offer today on the FJR :dribble: , bike is still registered to Yamaha so it hasn't been anyones daily demo . :coolsmiley03: I questioned the mileage issue and was told the demo loops are usually 10 miles , the bike was taken to various dealers (40 ought) , where if 10 rides were taken per demo , would put the mileage at 4000 , which is just about right on . I figured with that much trailering the bike would be scuffed and stuff , but not the case , it is real clean . :coolsmiley02:

I think these guys are straight up and the bike has been represented honestly for what it is .

Now are they desperate enough to take my offer of $9,750.00 ?

We shall see ...

Did you remember to ask then about the warranty start date? In other words, do you get the full 12 months of warranty coverage? Also, in lieu of the $250 discount you are looking for, what about having them throw the 4 year YES in? It'll cost you ~$380 at D&H (cheapest place). But at their cost, who knows...

Fred I did , thanks , the year starts when I ride out of the parking lot with the bike . I asked for the cash off just to see what they will say , I may end up with a discounted "product" of some kind . Extra warranty is a possibility .

Now I wait , been a couple hrs already ... :detective2:

Well guys it's over, my offer was turned down . :dead: In the midst of our negotiations a tad of interesting info slipped out . ;) I don't know if they realized it or not but after I heard what they said , I am glad I was turned down . -_-

Seems there are a fair number of 08's still on dealers floors and it has Yamaha's attention , look for pricing mods in the New Year . :derisive:

I am waiting to see what's going to happen , heck can't ride now anyway . :dribble:

Unless I am mistaken, 10 miles a loop times 40 dealers is 400, not 4,000. Things usually work out for the best, good luck.
