I got my finger on the trigger on a 08 or 09 1300A (see which dealer will give me the best deal ). My question is if i get the factory heated grips and install my self will the controller go in the same place as the AE or is it mounted elsewhere? I ride year round (Commute) in SC so I want the grips. I'm dumping a vtx 1300 v twin and cant wait for the smooth 4 banger:)

if you buy the right ones (there are two different ones, one for the Gen-I and another for the second generation bikes) it will go where the 'AE' one goes and it is all plug-and-play.

Remember 'smooth' is a relative term.

Given your qualification, I hope you'll enjoy your '08.

Be sure you get the Gen II heated grip kit. It will fit just like the AE, and the controller will go in the same AE location. It will be plug 'n play, but you will have to do a bit of an Easter Egg hunt for the connectors. There are some tricks to getting the wires to run across the handlebars just like the AE which aren't clear from the kit. Won't hurt functionality, it just won't be 100% stock looking. This bothers some a lot and others none at all. Go'fer it!

This might help: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=113501

I think mine turned out looking like it could've been installed at the factory.

That was your qualification that depending on whether you would get a better deal on an '08 or an '09 . . . . your dealer will almost certainly do you better for the prior year model, as the '09 will be easier to unload going forward.

If you are negotiating, keep in mind that the '08 was cheaper going in, and, to be fair, is a 'year older'. Those black rims and easier clutch pull notwithstanding, the '08 had BETTER be cheaper. Keep in mind that there is a cashback promotion in place for both years too.

Extended warranty is a gift at $389 - no tax on the Yamaha Y.E.S. if you buy from D&H - so your local dealer may have to come down a bit to match the price. Do NOT accept a third party warranty.

See what happens if you get me started?

Thanks Bramfrank I would think the 08 would be cheaper but that dealer is known for sticking it to you. They had 13989 and the other dealer with the 09 was actually a lot cheaper. I like the 09 black wheels but I would think I could get the 08 a whole lot cheaper since word on the street is 2010 info coming out tomorrow. Now the fun begins hope to be a new owner soon

Is that a TTL included price? or is that the bike plus prep price - hard to compare whe you are adding in local charges that differ from state to state.

With the '10s coming out you might want to give a call to D&H to see if they can get you an '09 - looking at high 11's or very low 12's.

Ok tell us why we should not take the third party warranty.
I can send you the transcript from small claims court when I had to sue the company covering the cage to get reimbursed for a car problem - and this was a 'recommended by CAA' provider - CAA is the Canadian equivalent of AAA). The judge called them 'slime' during testimony and then told everyone that he had to take it under advisement . . . . I won, of course.

Also, 3rd party companies sometimes go out of business. When you deal with the manufactrer there is simply no question. If it was covered in year 1, it is covered in year 5. I'm about to get my second headlight reflector changed out for crazing, for example. No 3rd party warranty company would cover that.

The 13989 is for the bike alone you got to add all the other prep and delivery etc like I said they are know to be crooks

You can do better.

I know you're excited, but patience will save you enough money to buy some pretty significant farkles.

And, who knows? If the 2010's are significantly changed, you might just want to order one of THEM from D&H.
