So,

The bike is at the local dealership (I have never even stepped foot in this place) and the service guy on the phone is pretty much agreeing that it is totaled. What do you guys think is a fair price for an 08 with 22500 or so on the clock?

here's what NADA says

Greg

I would agree it's totaled, really totaled to be sure.

Your insurance company should be doing the leg work for FJR type bikes in your area, and they give it a fair market value. Some times it's valued at more then they are going for in the market, some times less.

Good luck.

I would suspect they will try to give you 8k or so. The milage as I remember correctly for bikes it is about 4-5k a year allowed. The way to get a higher price is conditions of tires, any additional items. Some will pay for them others not, it depends on the company. Keep in mind they are only replacing the bike , they are not obligated to pay anything else on it. If it is an accident and the other party is at fault often you have to go after them for any damage over the price of the bike.

You should come out smelling like a rose... :)

Some insurance companies don't mind paying, it's good for business (they just pass it on to the rest of us...) -- some do mind.

The adjuster will probably go with average retail and maybe deduct some for high mileage (motorcycle annual mileage is usually pretty low. generally).

If you're not happy with their offer you may have to present some 'comps' to prove your point? If you show it has more value than they think -- you may/can prevail.

Good luck

definitely missed the point of this one... sorry

personal: 10,600-11,000 is what I would go for, especially if there was any modifications listed under your policy

Good luck!

There for a second, I thought your avatar was an X-ray of your shoulder interfacing with a Pilot Road after the crash! Whew!

Here are some 08 AE models on CycleTrader. Not sure how these prices compute with your insurance pay off, but might lend some perspective. Good Luck!

More than likely, the insurance company will determine a 'book' value and there is a good chance mileage will have nothing to do with it. Part of it depends on insurance companies, as they each do things a bit differently. Especially when it comes to farkles and riding gear.

I know the high miles my FJR had didn't matter with Progressive. In fact, sometimes I wish my 220k FJR would get stolen as the insurance payout is worth a hell of a lot more than I could ever sell it for, if I even could.

As a guess for yours - $10,000-$11,000.

Greg, Stae Farm paid me retail for my 2005. They checked the book value, but mainly went to all the local dealers for a more accurate survey as to what they would have sold my bike for. They new I would likely accept a retail price offer and be done with it. I was able to get the money and go shopping. Iwas happy with the deal and I had already found a left over 2007 in a crate. Good luck.

I am sure if you park it in certain area's of CA and leave the keys in it your wish will come true.

I know I have accessory equipment insurance to cover all my goodies for when I go down. Check your policy.

If there anything left to the seat I might be interested.

Insurance companies are in the business of making money and paying out as little as possible. If you allow it, they may attempt to get you to take much less than your bike is really worth. Whether you look at NADA of KBB, the price varies depending if you look at Trade-In value, Dealer used or FSBO Retail. And are you surprised that consumer retail is always listed lower than what a dealers retail price is listed at for the same bike.l.

Stand your ground if they try to get you to accept a lower than expected price.

Selling to the insurance company is almost always a good trick in America -- it's done all the time (they call it fraud -- but, it's hard to prove...).

(it also can be unhealthy when it comes to motorcycles... :( )

Selling a really high mileage motorcycle is extremely difficult (if not impossible) in America. Two ways that I've seen work are: 1, cultivate a buyer -- may take a year or so; but someone who really doesn't ever go anywhere can use your high-mileage bike just fine (the miles won't mean a thing...). Give him a good deal -- once you've found him.

And 2, contact 'The Dutchman' -- a European buyer who scavenges container-loads of, usually big, usually Japanese, used motorcycles in the U.S. and ships them to Europe for re-sale. Some are models that weren't sold in Europe (too powerful in some countries) and most cost, when new, 'an arm & a leg' to Europeans.

When he bought mine he said he was un-concerned about mileage -- if it looked good and ran well, he'd pay me what I asked.

He did -- in big bills... :)
