Guys just thought I'd share a problem I had with changing gears. Really hard to down shift up/down mostly downshifting. Bike was new purchased, and just got worse as I put some miles on it. Bike would stall when selecting 1st gear until warm and some gear crunching. Depressing of brake lever in 1st gear sometimes wouldnt disengage gear when warm, and the bike would motor along for another 2-3 metres before releasing. Tried the clutch lever rider 1-5 settings, mineral and syn oils. Anyway got the bike back from the Yamaha shop the other day after they put a new clutch in there and cant believe how smooth it is to do gear changes. Spoke to the mechanic who did the work and he said the steels and clutch plates had grease on them. I looked at one of the steels and there was a brown/ black tarnish on them which were tacky to touch which was causing releasing problems. They dont know how the grease got on them, but now I have new clutch plates fitted its a dream to change gears now :yahoo: . Time in their workshop was about 1.5 hrs.

Your profile says AE (World) yet you have a clutch lever! :dribble:

What Yamaha won't do to make customers happy.

BTW, your (old) clutch plates were perfect examples of the "needs-a-clutch-soak" syndrome.

Good for your dealer getting you sorted.

Pulled my clutch plates out on my last oil service and found 3 disc stuck to plates. Cleaned all plates/discs with acetone and dipped in motor oil and my slight delayed clutch release went away.
