SoCal’s LD Riders Last Ride Of the Year

Saturday, December 28, 2013, 11:00 AM

It's hard to imagine why, butt, a third of LD riders live where it's frozen
solid. Their motors have been "winterized" (a very scary word). It's a
process akin to embalming where fluids are changed and the life force is
removed and placed on a bench with a Battery Tender on it. :x

All these riders are just grumpier then hell and can be found hunched
over their little computers 24/7, wrapped in a tattered blanket, wearing
long-johns (with button rear flap), earmuffs, fingerless gloves and peckin'
away. The "sit here, twist that" aggression is now directed solely at the
little keyboard and what ever pops up on the screen. They're probably
typing like they ride . . . some smooth and effortless . . . others herky-
jerky, pecking all over the place. All the while they're mumbling, snortin',
dozin’ off and sending each message off with a "smack" of the SEND NOW
key yelling "Stuff this up yur candy ass “final drive” drivel ‘n smoke it."
Then muttering "If I can't ride, nobody's gonna get the last word on me!"

Another third can only get out on a rare good day. Some screw little
metal studs into their tires, shoes, gloves and butt to maintain traction.
And they ride till they can't take the pain any longer and they're always in
danger of breaking off a very blue finger or black toe. Butt, just knowing
they can still ride puts them into a moderately civil disposition. :^|

While the rest of us . . . well . . . life is good. Ride every day or at least
every weekend. :^) The electrics are packed away somewhere. And we
might even put it on if it gets down to the low-60's! Burrrrr!

Then once we gather and begin - according to tradition, we’ll lift our
glasses to celebrate our good fortune to be able to ride today. Then we
will honor our fellow LD riders, “Those that can’t (ride that is)”. And wish
them a quick end to the “S” words (S-N-O-W, S-L-E-E-T), bike tire chains
and ice of any color.

11:30 Noon - 1:30 PM

The Far Western Tavern
300 Clark Avenue
Old Town Orcutt, CA
Phone: 805-343-2211

GPS: N34 51.899, W120 26.670

The Far West Tavern is a carnivore's wet dream! This is a real, genuine
"Santa Maria Style BBQ" steak house. The Far Western's claim to fame is
their "Bull's Eye Steak" which is a prime cut rib eye steak. The 6 oz center
cut filet mignon "Delux" is ~$29 and the 14 oz "Bull's Eye Steak" is ~$39.
Most luncheon items are in the $10-25 range.

This is not banquet food. Unlike many restaurants that require a prepaid
guarantee and a limited group menu, we are ordering off the regular
lunch menu and each steak is prepared as ordered. There will be “one
check per table or group”. Please bring a wad of cash in all faces
(Jackson’s, Hamilton’s, Lincoln’s and Washington’s) to simplify the “one-
check-per-table/group” paying. A 15% gratuity will be added to each
table’s check.

Please be aware that service may be a little slower under these conditions.
However this give you all more time for tire kickin’, general bull $hit and
flat out lying.

Reno and Northern California LD folks, this is half-way between SoCal and
the Bay Area! 225+ miles one-way! Not even a full tank for most of you
guys. It's the perfect “last” ride-of-the-year ride. And for you Saddle
Sore aficionados from Canada, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho,
Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas ... come on
down!

RSVP: Dean Tanji at [email protected]
for a head count. Include the following for each rider and/or passenger.

but the thought of trailering as far as Redding comes to mind. after all it's a balmy 37 degrees here.

Won't make it this year. Late Xmas at a frozen volcano. Ya'll have fun and enjoy those yummy steaks!

Do what you have too!! The Colorado guys trailer past the shoulder high snow and ride where they don't need chains. :) )

It's Because We Can … :) Just yanking' yer chain. This winter has been tough. Even here in California we had sub-freezing weather in the San Joaquin Valley! No ice or snow but still cold for us flip-flop guys.

It's 12 days till "Because We Can … Ride that Is!!!"

At this time we have 30+ riders from CA, UT, AZ & WA who are riding because they can. Of course attendance is weather driven. Far Western has been vey accommodating to our unique rider needs.

California has been coolish. I'm at a ranch in Central California and last week and an exterior water pipe hose bib froze and burst. Now that doesn't happen very often in the San Joaquin Valley.

It's not too late. A rare rib-eye steak and some cold-nose riding friends is a wonderful way to end 2013!

Out of the 30+ riders three of us (me included are FJRers).

Barring horrific weather conditions, I'm in. Email to come. Thanks, Dean!

I unfortunately have to bow out... it's my niece's 13th birthday on Saturday and since I couldn't be with her and my sister for Xmas, I'm going to be there for her birthday instead... lift a fork for me and everyone keep the shiny side up! B)

I'll be attending on my 07 FJR escort bike. RSVP email already sent to Dean.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.
