I went riding with a couple of friends today. They both ride cruisers and are usually cautious and responsible as I am...usually.

My friend was leading on his VTX 1800. This was the first time I've seen him go over 80mph.

Anyway, when I heard him crack the throttle and take it up to 90+mph, it was like the chase reflex of a dog after a rabbit.

I passed him like he was standing still. At about 105-110 the FJR seemed to have a little vibration resembling tires out of balance. I pushed it past this point where it got smooth again and when I looked down at the speedo it was on 130mph!

I'm blown away by how easily I got there and knowing there was much more left to go. The full realization of the speed was slowing back down. The vibration was there again at about 110 to between 105 and 100.

I've never ridden that fast before and don't suggest anyone else do so either. (at least not on a public road)I'm only sharing my experience.

I'm hoping I have not become an addict!!!!

ooohhhh... it'll happen -- more and more and more....

soon -- you'll be looking for more wondering what took it so long to get up to 150..

then you'll want more....

start looking for nitros, turbo stuff.... -- then -- the ZX-14 will start callin' ya...

you're hooked -- just enjoy it... you can't fight it...

Do it drunk and then I will be impressed.

Oh, and no helmet, either. Then you can join my stupid club. It's called idiots mc.

So after the lawyers, etc., what would be the result of an encounter with a LEO at this speed for a first time offender? Anybody with experience?

The good thing is that the speedo is quite optimistic - about 10% on my bike according to the GPS. So your 160 is something like 145 - even if we're discussing KPh. I have a speedo healer coming in because I prefer an accurate speedometer.

Even so, the bike can't go a lot faster than 145 mph if it's stock.

But it's plenty fast enough.

I've been on the other side.......actually pulling those over who had attained such speeds.

Those that I didn't have to chase got a warning......

Those that I did chase lost their bikes :D or..... I lost them...... :angry2:

Speed is addictive...........darn adrenalin rush.

If you could only have sex while doing 150 (and live to tell about it).......now that would be a rush. :yahoo:

Well, all the road tests indicate that top speed is around 153- 154, and I do not believe that my speedometer is 10% fast. My friend was showing 170 on his Hayabusa and at that time he was just barely pulling away from me.

Also, I asked the question about speedometer error about a month ago on this forum, and everyone who had checked it said their findings where that it is probably 5mph fast at that speed.

Let the games begin!

:puke: Aggghhhh, yes. I lived in Rochester, NY, girlfriend lived near NYC. Friday routine was to leave work, put a brick on the gas peddle, arrive at her house ~ 4 hrs later. I earned my ticket back in the early days of radar where the gun sits on a stand beside the road. I crested the hill and wondered what the little do-hicky was. I rang up 142. Cops way down the road pulled their cars across the road so I couldn’t run. Heck, I didn’t know if I could stop. Guns came out as I was standing the brakes. At some defined speed it goes from a civil infraction to a felonious endangerment infraction. Go directly to jail. Pockets empty, bank account empty – spent Thanksgiving in jail. Four days. Food wasn’t as good as home but I did have the place to myself. In the good ol’ days just before states linked computers together I was able to use a friend’s address in NJ where I got a NJ drivers license before I even went to court in NY. NY revoked my right to drive for 3 years and they burned my NY license. I learned my lesson but good.....................don’t get caught...................but, if detected stop.

Why do you want to believe what has been proven over time. You can talk about unsubstantiated data but the proof is in the pudding. Get a GPS and then eat crow cuz you are wrong in your assumption. Most bikes are off as much as 10%. Take heed from some of the fasted LD riders in the country and on what they have reported speedo's are off. And why is it people want to report higher speeds than have been tested at the factory and on the track? Go figure.

Let me try to answer your questions with as much dignity as I can muster.

1) Nothing has been proven to me

2) I made no assumptions at all. Read what I said more carefully.

3) I made a post about a month ago and asked on this very forum what people thought. They reported that is was off about 5% at most.

4) I referred to actual road tests in magazines who actually "clocked" them in the 153-154 range, NOT manufacturers speeds.

5) I did not report higher speeds, I stated that the speeds were what the speedometer said, and never claimed it to be accurate.

I have been around high performance vehicles longer than most people on this forum have been alive. I've roadraced motorcycles, drag raced and autocrossed Corvettes, and have probably a thousand of hours in "Cigarette" boats. I've seen plenty of ********, and I don't like bullshitting others. Like I said, read my post again and you will see that I never made any absolute statements, I just reported what I have read and been told and never presented it as a fact.
