Myself and 5 others went on a 14 day ride to Colorado from the Portland, Or. area. The trip would be around 4600 miles with stops in many towns in Colorado, mostly back country or as John would say Rocky Mountain High. After going across Colorado to Ft. Collins then south to Canon City then back North to Granby, South to Del Norte, climbing to the tops of Mt. Evans, Pikes Peek and no less than 10 miles of gravel going over Guanella Pass, I had a mishap near Creed, Co. Having to take a pee, I pulled off on a gravel turn out, only to find a slimy mud mixture that took the front wheel in a different direction than the bike and I went down. Broke my fibula at the ankle and only had bruises at my knee and shoulder.
I got an ambulance ride to Del Norte, where I got x-rays, then caught a plane in Alamosa, Co to Denver and then Denver to PDX. Made it home by midnight that same day. Got a cast put on the next day, only to find out the pressure work to move the bones into place didn't produce the results the doctors wanted and now I will have to have an operation to pin the fibula back together.
My friends stored the FJ-09 in a storage facility in Creed, escorted me to the Hospital and after I was off to the airport, continued on to Ouray.
Now I need to figure out how to get my bike home. Since great suggestion are always posted in this forum, I would be pleased to listen to what has worked in the past and any help that may be available. Fly back to Alamosa in the winter and ride it home is out.
