Don't tell Mom
Just back from the annual migration with the rest of the familial herd & completed a SS1k on the outward leg: Gainesville, FL to Adrian, MI, 1026 miles in 15 3/4 hours with a moving average of 72. Tried to take a pic of the gps, but it didn't turn out. Even managed to put in 120 miles on the bike the following day riding around with my brother (he has a V-Max with a Stage 4 jet kit & I'm happy to report that I took him in top gear roll ons from 60 to 80).
However, pleased as I was with myself & thinking I was invincible, I tried to beat a storm system on the way back. Results: 210 miles of rain riding & heavy traffic & a lost rain fly for my tail bag. Hung it up after only 320 miles (it took a good 70 miles of riding after the rain to dry off). And for those of you who are curious, never ever ever take a 3 hour canoing trip the day before striking out: blistered hands & a sore *** are not conducive to mega slabbing. Even with a gel pad for the seat & gel palm inserts in my gloves I was a hurtin' pup on the 700 mile day yesterday (see pic below).
Does anyone else suffer unduly from intolerance with stuuuuuuuupid stuuuuuupid cagers when on long trips? Normally I just expect vapidness & lack of driving savvy, but for whatever reason they really get to me on long rides. Maybe because I'm trying to make good time & haven't factored in utter stupidity & total lack of familiarity with the laws of physics; or maybe general tension that goes along with doing lots of miles. Hope I'm not the only one, because I actually shook my fist at a cager yesterday for almost getting me dead. Never done that before. Then I noticed my anger did not evaporate & I was traveling way too fast & muttering. So I pulled off & had a bottle of water & composed myself. Grrrrrrrr.
