2-3 day run to SLC

My first post - so not sure if there's a procedure to follow.

Anyway, I plan to make a run to SLC June 19-21, either 2 or 3 days. Probably go out through Clarkston/Lewiston and stay in Kamiah ID at the motorcycle friendly motel/camping - can't remember the name at the moment. Then follow 12 to south of Missoula, then down 93, or maybe some other way. I'll stay in SLC and return 2 weeks later.

If anyone wants to tag along on the front end they'd be welcome (or the back end in early July). I'd leave from Gig Harbor and either head to eastern Washington past North Bend or maybe by the north end of Mt Rainier and out through Yakima - could meet somewhere early on at the outlet malls in North Bend or somewhere else.

I would love to Rick, unfortunately, the timing does not work for me.

It sounds lot a lot of fun and the roads should be great (not too much traffic).

SLC? Salt Lake City. A strange place you generally don't want to go to unless you have to or unless you're strapping on some boards. But central and southern Utah has some of the best two-lane roads I've had the pleasure to ride. Six national parks in 3 days (including dipping over the border into Nevada). And not much traffic except around Moab and a few other spots. Most magazines miss some of the best roads, like Hwy 35 southeast out of Francis over Wolf Creek Pass to Duchesne. Others: hwy 150 through the Uintahs. Hwy 95 from Blanding to Hanksville and Hwy 12 from Torrey to Bryce Canyon are amazing.

A day later and I could have joined you for part of the trip, although I'm going over Chinook Pass and heading east. I'm leaving the morning of the 18th and heading toward Lake Couer De Alene Casino for the first night of a 10 day trip that will take me to Montana, Alberta and British Columbia in a long round-about way back home.

The wife is riding her Honda NC700X and a friend and his wife are 2up on a Honda Goldwing. If I still had my CBR1100XX, we would be a Honda Trifecta! But the FJR will be much more comfortable and I can't use the CBR's benefits in this crowd (let's just say that the XX has traveled at speeds much higher than the FJR is capable of on other trips in Montana with a different crowd) .

Harald - its tempting to ride with you to Coeur d'Alene. Are you slabbing it after Yakima, or are you doing 12/Wallawalla and 95 north through Moscow? Or some other way? I might consider it, but really wasn't thinking of leaving on Thursday. (I'm easy to get along with).

In 2011 I rode through Whistler to Jasper, Alberta, then over to Bella Coola and caught the ferry to Vancouver Island and back. Amazing country, amazing trip. Don't forget mosquito netting - ha. Have fun. Regarding your CBR, I had some CBRs fly by me last September heading west out of Stanley, ID. I decided to keep up for a while (a mile) but wasn't really easy about doing 115 consistently. It was fun though for a minute and the FJR didn't have much trouble. No doubt you're not referring to 115 though.

Rick - We haven't firmed up our routing, but we'll probably go 12/95 or possibly 12/127/95 or something else other than I90 (I don't like the slab unless I gotta get there fast). I gotta check with the Goldwing guy for his thoughts.

"SLC" in the subject line caught my eye. I guess you are already on the road? You may have already done your homework on routes you want to explore while you're here in Utah. If I can help in any way, let me know. Curious--what brings you to the land of the Great Salt? Heheheh.

Lidja - it turns out I had to cancel plans to ride to SLC. Am now flying in next week to do work for a couple of weeks.

I'm relatively familiar with the roads in the area since I lived in PC for 4 years. While there I rode a Honda 750. I get in and out of SLC frequently since my company has an office in Sugarhouse and there are people there that I am supposed to manage - ha - but sometimes it just seems easier to work away from there. I need to retire. I'll ride to Salt Lake again sometime. Let's do a ride then around Hwy 150 or somewhere. Rick
