I just went to order a new front Metz Z6 and the guy called back telling me the "'06 FJR front replacement" (56W) is backordered until 4/29.

The "general" replacement is available immediately. I've never heard of 2 different FRONT Z6's before, only rears.

Could both tires be identical and just model specific code # or are they really different?

Anyone have unsight to this? I need to order within 24 hrs or I don't ride next week.

Thanks!

Randy

PS......no wiseasses telling me Metzeler sucks please! Leave that useless info for another thread.

Metzeler sucks moist ass cheese!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Since I am not a fan of the Metz's, and have not looked into them, I can't say for sure, but I am willing to bet that if there is an FJR specific model (OEM on the 06 FJRs), there are some differences in the construction.

But.......I will also go out on a limb and say you probably have nothing to worry about by getting the "general replacement" version.

Well, other than worrying about the tire spontaneously combusting without warning, that is.

:p

+1!
Thanks for the help.

I even asked nicely not to turn this into something else.

I don't give a shit about your opinions, I just need an answer.

I guess some people can't read.

I have seen several tire makers offering what appeared to be identical tires under 2 different labels, one as part of a series (the BT020 for instance), and one as an oe replacement. The part numbers differ, but does the tire?

The Regular tire

085901 120/70ZR17M/C 17 BT020F BW TL - 58W Z 23.8 4.7 5 (3.50)3.50-3.75 520 42

The oe specific

000961 120/70ZR17M/C 17 BT020F BW TL N 58W Z 23.8 4.7 5 (3.50)3.50-3.75 520 42 Yamaha FJR1300 2001-2004

Not one dimension or other difference I can find-yet BS lists some 14 different part numbers for what appears to be the exact same tire (the N is an oe code). These part numbers have no discernable pattern-random as hell. :dntknw:

In my somewhat limited experienc, the different designations, or "spec" of the same model of tire, usually have some construction differences, though they are the same physical size. Usually, differences in number and types of belts or plys, and perhaps even tread compound?

The Avon AV-46 rear is an example, as the normal and "B" spec have slight differences in the belts used for construction.

And, the Pirelli Diablo Strada rear, with their "E" spec tire for the FJR is another example of slightly different construction.

Since my last post, outta some lame curiosity on my part, I did some Googling for the answer and I believe I found it right on Metzelers site. Funny, but as I opened this thread I somehow lost the link. Sorry. Happy hunting.

The second part # refers to the Metzler tires that suffer tread separation, choose wisely. :bleh:

Sorry just couldn't resist, the door is just waaaayyy to open.

Oh
by the way:

Metzlers SUCK
You TOO Pappy??? Jeez.....

As much as I didn't want to make this thread go that way, I knew it would no matter what I said.

My main problem here is only having less than 24 hrs to make a decision to get the "general" use version. Otherwise I suffer through another fairly long (700+ miles) trip.

I didn't see anything that explained what those letters were at the end. C G K U, etc.

You don't need to worry about that. Doesn't happen `till 156 MPH...

So after all this, none of my FJR gurus here have any info on the tire difference?

Surprising. I thought this would've gone further. Although I DID see that the new Z6 rear is now rated "C" instead of "B". But that's not my concern at the moment. I only have until 2pm Thursday to place the order in time to get the tire before the weekend.

I say bang em on a see how ya go, you can always get anotherie later on down the track, I had Metz and I have to say they were pretty bloody good actually, just put the wind up me with the occasional reported tyre aneurysm

Cheers and good riding ;)

The old FJR is supposed to have the regular front, the 2006 a different one.

Don't worry about the Metzies, they're a great tire. Personally I wouldn't want to be caught dead with a pair of Avons on my rims.

FJRandy...from what I've been told.... the differences are in the load rating....so you'd want the heavier of the two...I've been using them on the track & I'm running the z6 on my 04....love them...been running on metz for about 20 years....no problems....if these other monkey butts don't like them....who cares....the probably can't ride worth shit anyhow....don't let it bother you...good luck

I had no choice but to order what they call the "general replacement" model. I think what was posted here above was correct. The other model is listed as a replacement for the '06 FJR.

I didn't have the option of waiting to see what the difference was, and if it's the same as what I have on there now it'll be perfect.

Yes Mike, I don't give a rat's ass if others don't like 'em. Mine served me well, and I never had to suffer the "Avon wobble".

That Z6 problem was so 2 years ago! Gimme a break already.

FJRRandy....don't mean to piss you off....but I believe the problems where with the z4's not z6's...I could be wrong  (just ask the better half) but I don't think so :nea: ...than again whatever I tell you & $1.25 buys you a cup of joe...hope it's the right tire...

Mike, the Z4's are just plain junk. It WAS the Z6's that were shredding, but that's old news.

ALL of us know it's old news........some still won't believe it.

And you didn't piss me off in the least, don't worry. ;)
