I volunteered to organize a 2-up ride for the EOM this year. There were some interested folks so I started the process. Pretty easy process for me because spklubk jumped in with several routes (thanks Jim)! I took those routes and spent many hours making a “route” in MapSource. No kidding, many, many hours figuring out that steaming pile of processed agricultural products.

Lorie is going to a Baby shower this Saturday so I snatched my liberty card while she was distracted. I’m going to do an RSOP of the ride this Saturday, 23 Jun (actually the RS and not the OP). I’d be happy to have company if anyone wants to come along. Here’s my plan:

Leave Stafford VA (home) between 0600 and 0630. Head by fastest route to Lewisburg (212 miles) (via Rt 64 vic Charlottesville). I’ll begin at the Brier Inn and run the route to probably Warm Springs and then head for home (165 miles). This’ll be roughly a 500 mile day for me. Gotta get home for a party that evening, or I’d make it an overnighter.

Now, not to discourage folks from coming along, but my goal in this is to ride as much of the route as I can and to check out a couple of places to eat, shop, ogle at the scenery and the like. If anyone would like to come along I’d be happy for the company!

(hating to jinx it, I'd like to say) mebbe...

this is the first non-soccer weekend for the grandson in a long while and I'd love to get some decent miles in. more importantly I haven't ridden WV at all so I'd welcome the opportunity to ride some place new. I'll check some logistics, apply for clearance from central command, and with a ittle luck it might work out.

Thanks for posting the offer, I'll let you know as we get a little closer.

Jim,

Thank you for doing this. I am bringing my wife for the first time and we are looking forward to your ride(s).

Larry

Jim~ I was actually going to email you something about checking it out this weekend. I finally have a weekend off and Melisa said I can do anything I want. So I was thinking of riding I just don't know how much and can I get her to go for about 500 Miles on Saturday? I dont know yet. But I would love to do the ride with you if I can get her to go. It should be an easy sell since I have been the horse trailer driver for the last 2 weekends.

Let me do a flight brief and I will let you know.

Aviator, I'll be doing this ride solo. If you come and bring Melisa that's great, just want you to know I'll be riding without Lorie. In fact, having her along would be good to get her druthers for the trip!

PlaynGuitar - good to hear from you! If you decide to come along we'll figure somewhere to meet. The fastest route for me is down 95 to 3 to 20 to 15/29 at Ruckersville (I think) south to Chrlottesville and 64. You could beat on down 15/29 and we could meet in Ruckersville.

Should be a full day!

yep, I know where that is... that will definitely work.

if you have an idea of your projected ETA around that area, I'll get there a little ahead.

thanks!

Patrick, it's a 1 +8 ride for me; how about 0730 at the gas station on the corner of 33 and 15/29 (can't remember the name, but it'll be across 33 on the right for you. I plan on leaving the homestead ~0600.

Aviator - It'll be nice to have Melisa along. Just warn her that occasionally we'll look at her and ask, "Will women like this?" That gives her an enormous amount of power that she must use carefully; remember, we're just dumb animals!

If you guys can make it, we can meet (and I know it's early!) at ~ 0610 or so at the Shell station right off of Exit 140 of Rt 95 (Stafford, Rt 630 (Courthouse Rd)). You'd get off and the station is caddy corner on your right. I'm pretty sure it's a Shell, anyway, it's not the BP station! Or, if you're too excited to sleep, we could meet between 0600 and 0630 at the Starbucks off of exit 143B - I'm easy but I'm not cheap!

sounds great. I can't remember the gas station name either but I know where it is.

and 7:30 gives me plenty of time...

will see you there!

Its an Exxon station with a Burger King in it. I've stopped there before. I may try and make it too

Help, can you give me an address or is the city Ruckersville? I am looking to see what route is easier for me to meet you at.

I am working on Melisa. Just need to get her up early and have her stop thinking about laying at the pool.

Aviator - I'm assuming you'll come down Rt 95. We can meet at either the Starbucks on Rt 610 (Exit 143B) or if you don't need coffee and just wanna get, we can meet at Courthouse Rd (Exit 140; Shell station caddy corner to the stop sign).

Starbucks between 0530 and 0600 or Courthouse Road around 0610 AM.

BUT, if you're not coming down 95 and to answer your question, the place I'm meeting PlaynGuitar is at the intersecition of Rt 33 and 15/29.

I'm thinking about making a 700mile day. Jim I would come from NC, straight shot up 77/74 whatever it is. What time would you guys plan to meet at the hotel if I decide to wake up at the asscrack of dawn to meet you guys there. I have a busy day tomorrow, if you could call 910 354 6790 and fill me in.

Eric

Here's the plan Stan:

- Meet PlaynGuitar and FJRGary at gas station intersection of 33 and 15/29 at 0730

- Call Aviator and E1Allen

- S to 64, W to Lewisburg - ETA 1000

- Call Aviator and E1Allen

- From LBurg (Brier Inn) run route at less than a blistering pace! Stop in a couple of places and check them out for 2-up appeal (will our wives/girlfriends/daughters/main squeeze like it)

- Right now I think I'll begin the long trek home from Warm (or Hot) Springs. I think the "Homestead" is in Hot and that may be my bug out point.

- I plotted the route in MapSource and will upload tonight. If anyone else wants it I'd be happy to send it to you. Absent that, I'll post the general route here this evening.

Aviator may head out at a later time for Seneca Rocks with Melisa and we might be able to get together at some point, or maybe not - not pressure either way.

I think I'll try hooking my cell phone thru my AutoCom one more time. Worked well calling out, and in fact both ways, but I couldn't hear the phone ring.

I'm looking forward to this and will see you tomorrow!

Jim

Have fun guys...Was actually thinking about joining you guys from Northern KY but alas, Saturday isn't looking to hot for me. Trying to prep for the IBA ride I'm planning. :)

Keep the rubber down and thanks Jim for taking the time to scout for us!
