Glad you (and your rear tire) made it home safe Eric. It was about 14-1/2 hours and 585 miles for me. Imade it home a little before 8 pm last night.

Here are you and Jim Lor at the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge parkway

Glad you made it home too Eric. I got home at 1930 and at 1950 was heading out the door to a party. Gotta admit, at about 2100 I was wondering if you made it.

I had a 527.0 mile day and a great time. Thanks to FJRGary (thanks for the use of the spanner too), PlaynGuitar, and E1Allen for your company! I'll post some thoughts on the route later today but here are a couple- 311 miles is toooooo long for a 2-up ride. We only got through 160 miles of it and it took us a fair amount of time - of course we weren't rushing. Craig's Creek Road (~9 miles) is scary as all get out! Fairly narrow two lane road and they have recently paved it - should say paved various parts of it! Patches here there and everywhere that were like, well, like hot slippery tar!

More later and thanks again Patrick, Eric, and Gary!

Aviator - sorry we couldn't get together. I attempted to call you twice and both times I couldn't get a signal. We'll try again!

...and here are PlaynGuitar (Patrick), FJRGary (Gary), E1Allen (Eric), and Maxine (a beautiful 2005 Yamaha FJR) in the lot of the Brier Inn:

You guys keep posting pictures and eventually I'll start remembering which name goes with which face. ;)

Thanks Jim, Gary, and Eric for great company on a beautiful day.

Also, I truly want to thank each of you for giving me a clear pciture of the right way to ride these terrific machines. As mentioned in my other post today I was challenged by the pace of the ride and realized I've got to spend some serious time reading and practicing, practicing and reading until the skills are ingrained. I'm determined to learn how to do this better... I really do want to be able to take those roads with the confidence and skill you all exhibited. Thanks for the opportunity -- really appreciated.

I do have one other story to share.... I had stopped on 64 to get some gas, phone home, and grab a soda before finsinhing the ride. The Corbin flying brick had really taken its toll and I was very sore. After finishing the calls to home and to Jim to confirm I had bugged out on purpose -- I suited back up and headed out. ALmost two exits later an SUV pulls alongside me and starts honking his horn. WHen I looked over the cat in the passenger seat was holding his cell phone to the window and pointing backwards with his other hand. It took me a few seconds to realize he was saying I'd left my cell phone. I pulled off and looked in the tank bag to confirm that -- yeh buddy -- the phone wasn't there. Snagged by the bad ju-ju from it-r-done mountain I'd managed to lose the phone.

I turned around and headed back to the Sheetz to see if anyone had turned in the phone I'd hoped I'd left. None turned in today was the response. It then dawned on me that I'd put the phone on the tail rack when I suited up and never put it back in my tank bag. d#mn!!! so, I retraced my ride out carefully to see if I could spot it. At the bottom of the exit ramp about 20 feet up the shoulder I found the black leather carrying case, a little farther up the shoulder I found the front screen, and a short istance farther in the rough of the grass next to the ramp I found my completely mangled and obliterated Treo. double d#mn!! the folks in the SUV must have seen the phone fly off the tail and pursued me to let me know.

So, it was freakin' amazing I found the phone and just plain good news I was able to grab the SIM card... I'd take a picture and show you but my phone is shattered!

Thanks again guys... best regards!!

Patrick

Thank you Jim, Patrick and Gary. I had a great time yesterday. I have heard that these Metzlers go fast once they start to, I just had to experience it first hand. I was hoping for a good tire for the way home, but turns out probably a good thing I didn't. I must have passed eight HP cars on the way home. The tire had tread till my last stop which was 60 miles from home, so I guess I didn't do too bad... I tried to get some "scenic shots" Which is impossible while driving, but these are the best photos that I came up with. I thought it was a great ride though. Jim, maybe 300 miles wouldn't be as long if we didn't travel 200+ miles to get there in the first place. :) . Thanks guys, I had a great time.

Eric

That's All of em.

heck Eric.... I'm impressed -- those were some pretty nice shots considering you did them while riding.

Glad the tire held out and you made it home safely.

Take care!

You guys had a great ride I can tell!! I did some of my own recon and found some really nice roads. Of course I met Paul with his brand new 07 FJR. Tireds to call you a few times as well, but we all know how WV is. No signal most of the way expect in the bigger towns. We had fun and I will finish up the ride report from Paul's thread.
