Well I needed to go to Texas for a RAT (Ride Around Texas) IBA ride, and my wife

wanted to visit some family in Houston. So I had this brainstorm (Bribe) ... We

could do a SS1000 on the ride to Texas. We would spend some time with her family,

she would fly back to West Palm Beach and I would continue up to Paris (Texas)

for the start of my ride.

I must say that I was surprised at how well the trip went on her part. She was

a real trouper! She put up with sharing an electric jacket, doing an Iron Butt

hotel in the Florida panhandle because yours truly is a whimp when it comes to

being cold. Then to really test her... I ran out of gas 2.2 miles from the "Next"

exit. She handled it well, although I think I have burns on my back from her glare

while I was pushing the bike.

Lessons learned:

The wife has an Iron Butt

Gas mileage varies based on load (More than I thought)

I-10 is VERY dull

Here is a photo of her start witness Kevin (On his birthday)

I want to thank Willie again for witnessing for us :yahoo:

Great photos...thanks for sharing. I can't believe you ran out of gas. That's too funny (I guess not at the time though.) Let's get together soon. I want to take a ride down to Key West this fall. Will let you know when I figure out the schedule.

Dave,

I have to admit... It was funny ! You know how I am always stretching the fuel- I was only 48 miles into the "reserve"

when she started cutting out. I tucked in tight behind a tractor trailer, but missed it by "That" much. I only pushed

a little over a mile til a truch pulled over and handed me a antifreeze container 1/3 full of gas. I still chuckle when

I look at my SPOT tracks and see the line on the shoulder of the road...

I am up for Key West, but I work at the PO... you know DECEMBER= OVERTIME. I am headed to S. Dakota Monday

to visit my son. Lets do a tech day at Jims. I am picking up a fuel cell on the way up in MS, I may need some help

getting it installed to pass inspection for rallies. (I hear the inspector is tough) :thumbsdownsmileyanim: :scooter:

Great meeting you guys and happy to have served as a witness.

You are right, Mayra looked too happy and relaxed for a 20hr ride.

Spottracker was pretty cool....followed the Texas ride as well.

Congrats to you both.

Willie.

Congrats on the SS1000 with passenger! Not too many women would volunteer for the torture.

My wife actually said she'd go when I did my first SS1000 a couple years ago, but I wasn't willing to give up bike manueverability, ability to scoot around on the saddle and stopping only when I felt like it. And there was the safety issue of not knowing how I'd handle having the extra weight on such a long ride.
